Steelers Now Have The Broncos Exploring Trade Up Opportunities Because Of One Prospect

The Pittsburgh Steelers are a hard team to predict when it comes to the 2025 NFL Draft. With the 21st overall pick, the organization should be in a good spot to address multiple needs on the roster, including quarterback, running back, and the interior defensive line. The quarterback position has been the main topic of discussion leading up to the event as the current starter on the roster is Mason Rudolph and both Shedeur Sanders and Jaxson Dart could be on the board when Pittsburgh is on the clock.

The quarterback position will always garner the most attention, but the Steelers have also shown interest in one of the top running backs in the 2025 draft class. Omarion Hampton out of North Carolina is considered the second-best running back in the class behind only Ashton Jeanty, and he could be a difference maker for Pittsburgh after the departure of Najee Harris. Pittsburgh hosted Hampton on a pre-draft visit, and the running back is considered a strong possibility for the organization in the first round.

The Denver Broncos are picking right before Pittsburgh at 20th overall, and Hampton has been mocked to them repeatedly. Draft analyst Charlie Campbell is extremely well-respected and he consistently draws up some of the most accurate mock drafts. He reported that Denver is threatened by Pittsburgh leap-frogging them in an attempt to land Hampton.

It was reported that the Broncos are threatened enough by the Steelers to consider moving up themselves to ensure they have a shot at drafting Hampton. If the Steelers are targeting Hampton, making a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to acquire the 19th pick seems like a real possibility. It would not be too expensive to move up the two spots, and it should put Pittsburgh in position to land Hampton as they would be picking right before Denver.

It seems as though the majority of the fan base in Pittsburgh would like to see the franchise go after a quarterback or a defensive tackle, but Hampton could be a valuable weapon for the offense. The back led the ACC in rushing yards in each of the last two seasons, while also scoring 30 total touchdowns on the ground in the last two years. He is an electric player that could also be an asset in the passing game, and he would have the potential to be in Pittsburgh for the next five seasons.

It seems like the possibility that is more likely would be Pittsburgh moving back in the draft, but if the organization is in love with Hampton, they would need to find a way to jump in front of Denver.

Steelers Have Shown Interest In Other Running Backs

Pittsburgh has done its due diligence when it comes to scouting the running backs entering the 2025 NFL Draft, and another potential first-round pick that has been in the building is TreVeyon Henderson. Henderson is considered the best back in the class when it comes to pass protection, and is also a weapon in the passing game out of the backfield. If Henderson is a target for Pittsburgh, the organization could stick and pick him at 21, while also considering trading back to land him at the end of the first round -- or at the start of the second.

If the Steelers go after a running back, it will likely be Henderson or Hampton, although it might be wiser for the organization to select a quarterback or defensive lineman. According to Campbell's report, the interest in the position from the Steelers seems to be real, which adds another wrinkle to the first night of the NFL Draft.
