At OSU, Sawyer developed into a disruptive force, showing steady improvement each season as both a pass rusher and run defender. His relentless motor, strong hands, and ability to win with both speed and power made him a key part of the Buckeyes' front seven. While he still has room to grow technically, Sawyer's raw traits and physical tools give him a high ceiling at the next level.

With the Steelers, Sawyer fits perfectly into their tradition of developing aggressive, hard-nosed edge players. Pittsburgh’s defensive scheme should allow him to thrive as a rotational pass rusher early in his career while he polishes his all-around game. Surrounded by veterans like TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith, Sawyer will have the opportunity to learn from some of the best while providing immediate depth and energy off the edge. His upside makes him a potential long-term piece for the Steelers' defense.
Steelers' Omar Khan Is Having Another Solid Draft
So far, the Steelers have put together a strong showing in the 2025 NFL Draft. With each selection, they’ve remained committed to reinforcing the physical identity that has long defined the franchise. In the first round, holding the 21st overall pick, the Steelers addressed the defensive front by selecting powerful University of Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon. A disruptive presence in the trenches, Harmon is expected to bring immediate help to a unit looking to get younger and more dominant up front.

When Pittsburgh came back on the clock in the third round with the 83rd overall pick, they shifted their focus to the offensive side of the ball, selecting Iowa Hawkeyes running back Kaleb Johnson. Known for his explosive burst and downhill running style, Johnson brings a complementary skill set to the Steelers’ existing backfield. His combination of size, speed, and vision makes him an intriguing option who could contribute early, especially in Arthur Smith’s run-heavy offensive system.
With their top picks, the Steelers have struck a balance between need and value — adding a foundational piece on defense and a high-upside playmaker on offense. Now, with the fourth round underway, fans are watching closely to see how Omar Khan and the front office continue to build out the roster.
