Ex-NFL All Pro Proposes Steelers Land Trevor Lawrence In Wild Shedeur Sanders Draft Day Trade

The Pittsburgh Steelers are desperate for a solution when it comes to the quarterback position, but not desperate enough to spend a first or third round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on the position. The Steelers picked Derrick Harmon in the first round and Kaleb Johnson in the third with Shedeur Sanders on the board at both selections. The quarterback prospect is still on the board going into the third day of the event, and the organization still might not pick him to attempt to improve its quarterback situation.

Pittsburgh has not had a consistent quarterback situation in several years, and the quarterback room is being completely turned over for the second season in a row. The Steelers have had no luck finding a franchise player at the position, but all possibilities are still on the table.

Former star wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons, Roddy White, took to social media during the 2025 NFL Draft and pitched a potential way to fix the problem for the Steelers.

White wants to see the Jacksonville Jaguars find a way to pick Sanders, even though the organization already has a franchise player at the position in Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence was selected with the first overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, and he made the Pro Bowl in 2022. He has already been given a large extension, although he hasn't quite lived up to the generational-talent label he was given coming out of college.

This is an interesting scenario from White, as there were rumors swirling earlier in the 2025 offseason about Pittsburgh calling Jacksonville about a potential trade for the quarterback. These rumors were quickly shut down by various parties involved, and some even speculated it was some sort of leak from the Jaguars by a low-level employee who is not in love with Lawrence.

The idea of bringing Sanders to Jacksonville isn't all that bad. He has great chemistry with Travis Hunter, who the Jaguars traded up to take with the second overall pick. Hunter is seen as a cornerback and a wide receiver, but many believe the transition to wide receiver will be easier to make at the professional level. The two put up great numbers in college, and could probably find a way to do the same at the NFL level.

The trade scenario is absurd, as Lawrence is in no world worth three first-round picks, especially with his current contract. He has not lived up to his new deal and he has struggled to stay on the field, as he has missed eight games over the last two seasons. Lawrence could thrive in Pittsburgh with the weapons on the offense and the powerful defense on the other side of the ball, but this trade would never happen, no matter how desperate Pittsburgh gets at quarterback.

Steelers Don't Show Signs Of Trying To Trade For A Quarterback

Pittsburgh has significant interest in veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and the organization believes he will eventually sign with the Black and Gold. He would be a Band-Aid at the position, and Pittsburgh could target a potential franchise player at the position in the 2026 NFL Draft, which is expected to have a much better quarterback class.

The Steelers are expected to acquire significant draft capital in 2026 through the NFL's compensatory pick formula, and those picks could be traded once they are given out. The picks could be used to vault up to a higher pick in the first round of the event, which would give Pittsburgh the chance to draft a top prospect.
