The Pittsburgh Steelers are well aware of when it's time to move on from a player with an outspoken personality that may cause issues either in the locker room, or on the football field, regardless of their talent level. Specifically at the wide receiver position, Pittsburgh is notoriously known for drafting big play-makers that bring baggage with them, like George Pickens, who the Steelers decided to trade away after three seasons together. Pickens was by far the most talented receiver that Pittsburgh has been able to have in years, but his antics prevented the team from being interested in doing business with him long-term.

The Steelers were able to secure a third-round pick for next year's NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, PA in return for Pickens. The Steelers and Dallas Cowboys also decided to swap late round selections for the 2026 NFL Draft for the Pickens trade. Pickens has a great opportunity to be a vital part of an electrifying NFC offense, being paired up with CeeDee Lamb and catching passes from Dak Prescott.
On Wednesday, NFL analyst and former offensive lineman, Ross Tucker spoke with Steelers reporter Mark Kaboly. Kaboly asked Tucker about the trade between Dallas and Pittsburgh, and Tucker believes the Steelers absolutely won the trade. Kaboly sarcastically wondered what could possibly go wrong in Dallas with Pickens in the mix.
"Listen, I played for the Cowboys, I know that culture. I can almost guarantee a lot of stuff will go wrong," Tucker said. "And by the way, not even the number one receiver. So they're gonna throw the ball to CeeDee Lamb 75 percent of the time. How is he gonna react to that?"
Prior to Tucker saying positively that Pickens will have issues with the Cowboys, he also detailed how the Steelers made the right choice by moving on from him ahead of his fourth year in the NFL.
"Well, I mean, first of all, the whole thing, where people say the Steelers got fleeced always makes me laugh. Yeah, the Steelers got fleeced. So when you say that, you're saying that the Cowboys got such a good deal and the Steelers are idiots. Let's think about this logically. Do you think the Steelers only talked to the Cowboys about this? No, they talked to every team about this. This was the best offer they could get. That says a lot about a lot."
Tucker also referred to all of the previous wide receivers that the Steelers have dealt with over the years that have caused problems in the locker room, despite their production on the field.
"Evidently, the Cowboys are the only one that wanted to give up what they gave up for Pickens. Probably because the story is out on Pickens. Once the Steelers say, 'The guy that we've known every day for three years, we just want to get rid of this guy,' what does that say to everybody else around the NFL? Once the Steelers are done with you at receiver, that is fire beware for any other team."
Pickens and the Cowboys recently spoke to the media about his new addition, and Pickens seems to be all smiles in Dallas currently. It will only likely be a matter of time before an implosion occurs during the season. Pickens will also need a new contract before the 2026 season begins.

Tucker spent one season with the Cowboys in 2002, where he started seven games. He said his prior experience with the Cowboys assures him that Pickens will have things to be upset about at some point in 2025.
Steelers In Need Of Another Wide Receiver Again In 2025
Outside of DK Metcalf, the Steelers have an unproven and young group at the wideout position. Last season, Pickens was the number one who the Steelers needed to find a sidekick for. They now find themselves in a much similar situation after dealing Pickens to Dallas. The fans were hoping to see at least one year of Metcalf and Pickens together, but Pittsburgh wasn't going to pass up Dallas' offer of a third-rounder for next year's draft.
