Report: Steelers' Broderick Jones Facing Scary Neck Injury That Has Officially Ended His 2025 Season

The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a clear plan in recent seasons when it comes to building through the trenches. The journey to do so began back in the 2023 offseason when General Manager Omar Khan traded up in the first round to select Broderick Jones out of the University of Georgia. His first couple of years were a bit inconsistent as he was forced to play right tackle, despite the fact that he naturally fits in on the left side. He finally got the chance in 2025, but his season came to a screeching halt when he suffered an injury in Week 12 against the Chicago Bears.

Steelers offensive tackle Broderick Jones (#77) walks on the field at St. Vincent College as the team practices during 2025 training camp in Latrobe, PA.

Jones was unfortunately placed on Injured Reserve (IR) when the team announced roster moves on Saturday. The young lineman was beginning to come along and prove that he may be worth the first-round investment, but will now miss an extended period of time. Being on IR forces a player to miss a minimum of four games; however, Jones could be set for a much longer recovery.

His injury was originally categorized as a stinger, but things have changed since a week ago. Team insider Gerry Dulac has reported on Sunday morning that the left tackle will miss the rest of the 2025 season due to a neck issue.

This is a brutal blow for Jones, as he was trying to show during the backend of the 2025 campaign that the Steelers should pick up his fifth-year option for 2027. Now, a lot will be left up to the front office's trust in him as of Thanksgiving, rather than the the very end of the season. This certainly hurts Jones' case, and makes things much more challenging for Khan and co. in Pittsburgh.

Neck injuries are never something to take lightly. While it has not been completely explained to the public just yet, it can't be a very good situation if the big man is going to be sidelined for an extended period. At this point, his goal will be to get healthy as soon as possible with the hope of being ready for offseason activities. The team will be sure to take it slow, as that part of the body can be a tricky one to navigate.

Steelers Hoping Veteran Will Step Up In Jones' Absence

Andrus Peat has been around the game of football for a long time. He will be the replacement at left tackle, and has a serious responsibility to protect a soon-to-be 42-year-old quarterback in Aaron Rodgers

Keeping the signal-caller upright will be critical, especially after he suffered three fractures in his left wrist. The most unfortunate aspect of the situation is that Jones finally began to show some promise, only for it all to be shut down in an instant with what seems to be a serious neck injury.
