The Pittsburgh Steelers were patient throughout the 2025 offseason. It was always known that Aaron Rodgers was going to take his time making a decision on his future, but after every last domino fell, he decided to sign a one-year deal to play in the Steel City. There have been ups and downs; however, he has earned the respect of a lot of players in the locker room. The organization is looking to make a late-season push to win the AFC North and host a playoff game, which is why it is important that the veteran quarterback is ready to play despite a left wrist fracture.

Steelers' quarterback Aaron Rodgers looks on with intense focus in street clothes as the team works out during a 2025 training camp practice at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA.

During the first half of a Week 11 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Rodgers was hit and fell awkwardly. He would continue to squeeze his left hand to test its mobility, but did not show up back on the field after halftime. This caused a lot of concern, despite the team having trust in backup Mason Rudolph. The future Hall of Fame signal-caller could not play in Week 12 against the Chicago Bears, but is expected to return to compete versus the Buffalo Bills in Week 13.

There hasn't been an overwhelming amount of information regarding the injury, aside from the fact that Rodgers fractured his left wrist. On Sunday morning, however, respected NFL insider Ian Rapoport gave a little more insight into what the extent of the ailment is. It's safe to say that there is a little more of a story to be told than many realized in recent days. It's not as simple as Rodgers having just one broken bone.

Instead of just one simple break in his left wrist, Rodgers is expected to play with three. There is a lot more damage there than originally believed, but Rapoport also noted how impressed the quarterback's teammates are with his resilience.

"Aaron Rodgers was already a respected figure in the Pittsburgh locker room. But the way he’s handled his injury has earned him even more respect. Not one, but at least three fractures," Rapoport wrote on X. "But because none are displaced, and because pain tolerance isn’t an issue, he can go."

It's good to learn that there are certain pieces to the puzzle that aren't as serious, but regardless, playing football, particularly as a quarterback, with three fractures in a non-throwing hand, isn't easy. The veteran knows that he doesn't have too much time left playing in the NFL, and the Steelers are thankful that he is gutting it out for one of the biggest games of the 2025 season.

With Pittsburgh set to take on the Bills come Sunday afternoon, protecting Rodgers will be pivotal. Broderick Jones will not be protecting his blindside after being placed on Injured Reserve (IR), so Andrus Peat will have a big job of helping to keeping the quarterback upright. Peat is a veteran who has been around a long time, so the hope is that he can bring some sort of experience into the matchup that helps the offense as a whole.

Steelers Hoping Aaron Rodgers Can Keep Pushing Through Tough Injury

It may not be easy for Rodgers to take snaps under center, but Pittsburgh is probably hopeful that he can continue to play as the weeks go on. It will be interesting to see how he decides to break his fall if he is pressured moving forward. Fans can expect the offense to run the ball out of the shotgun and pistol often, while only going under center if it is absolutely necessary.
