Steelers' Jonnu Smith Takes Direct Shot From Former Teammate On Social Media While Taking On The Dolphins

The Pittsburgh Steelers took on the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football in Week 15, and the team was able to get a big win by a score of 28-15. Pittsburgh got out to a 28-3 lead at one point, which is something the fan base has not been used to as of late. Garbage time scores by Miami made the game a little bit closer than it needed to be, when in reality the contest was never truly in reach for Miami once the second half got underway and Pittsburgh scored touchdowns on four straight possessions.

This game had some playoff implications within the AFC, and Miami was officially eliminated after the loss. Despite the playoff possibilities, the biggest stories heading into this game revolved around the players that used to play for the other team. This included Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith, as well as Minkah Fitzpatrick. Pittsburgh acquired Smith and Ramsey in exchange for Fitzpatrick during the 2025 offseason, and that trade has proved to be fruitful for Pittsburgh.

Those three players have strong relationships with a ton of players on the opposing team, and that was clear while looking through social media and seeing Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill tweeting throughout the game. He was having a good time, but he took a shot at Smith after the tight end recorded a penalty.

The wide receiver tweeted this out as he recovers from a severe knee injury, and this came after Smith got called for a holding penalty. This happened near the start of the second quarter when running back Jaylen Warren ripped off a 24-yard run, but that play had to come back after the holding call. This put Pittsburgh behind the sticks, and the offense ultimately went three-and-out on that possession.

Steelers' Jonnu Smith warms up prior to a game with the Miami Dolphins during the 2024 season.

Smith had the best season of his career in 2024 with the Dolphins. He caught 88 passes for over 800 yards and eight touchdowns, and he was one of the team's most important players as he made plenty of plays, despite the issues the group was having at quarterback. He wanted a raise in Miami, but the organization opted to trade him to Pittsburgh instead. Hill was poking fun at his former teammate by saying he was still making plays to help the Dolphins win by getting a 24-yard run called back.

Hill made up for it though as he was eventually cheering for his former teammate as he scored a touchdown later on in the game. Smith lined up at running back and was tossed the ball. The tight end scored on a 14-yard rush, which prompted the tweet above from Hill.

Steelers Saw Significant Contributions From Former Dolphins

Smith scored a touchdown and had a couple of catches as well against his former team, and Ramsey made his presence felt too. The safety patrolled the middle of the field well and he came up to make some vicious tackles a few times. He even got into the backfield on a blitz to take down his former quarterback Tua Tagovailoa

That came on a third down and the sack was a 12-yard loss, forcing Miami to punt.

Hill was worried about Ramsey making a play, and that is ultimately what happened. The two were close during their time with the Dolphins, and Hill was pleading with the organization throughout the 2025 offseason to get a deal done with Ramsey, rather than trade him away.
