The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently riding a three-game win streak as the franchise is getting hot at the right time of the year, but that is not the main story surrounding the organization in Week 17. Star wide receiver DK Metcalf got into an altercation with a fan during Pittsburgh's latest road win over the Detroit Lions in Week 16, and video has shown the wide receiver grabbing hold of the fan's shirt, and then aggressively letting the shirt go in a shoving motion, all while the two exchanged some words. It was announced on Monday that the wide receiver would be suspended for two games, but he is appealing that decision.

This story involving Metcalf has been big around the NFL over the last two days, and a ruling on his appeal is expected to come on Tuesday. The wide receiver claims that the fan in question called him a slur while also calling Metcalf's mother a derogatory term, which is not acceptable, but Metcalf cannot react the way that he did. Head Coach Mike Tomlin was asked about the incident and the suspension during his press conference on Tuesday, and the head coach did not have much to say as he was cautious with his words.

"He did explain to me why he did what he did," Tomlin said. "I certainly don't condone the behavior. But I support DK. I really don't have a lot to add, other than what I just told you. I think he has a hearing this afternoon, an appeals hearing. I certainly don't want to weigh-in prior to that. I've heard more recently that there might be legal ramifications, so I better be careful about what I say and how I say it. I'm sure you guys got a lot of questions, I understand that. But that's just the posture I'm in as I sit here today with so many components of this thing yet to be resolved."

The head coach did not want to address the situation directly prior to the NFL making its final decision on the matter, which is expected to come later on Tuesday after Metcalf appealed the initial decision. Tomlin also noted that there might be a legal case going on behind the scenes, so he stayed out of the situation and didn't go into much detail aside from condemning Metcalf's decision while supporting his player.

There has not been many details provided about a potential legal case, but it is known that the fan involved now has a lawyer. The lawyer and the fan put out a statement on Monday denying any accusation of the fan using derogatory language towards Metcalf and the wide receiver, and it should be expected for that fan to look to get something out of the wide receiver for either defamation or some sort of physical charge.

The NFLPA does not often change any decisions when met with an appeal, but very rarely does a two-game suspension get handed out. It is more likely than not that Metcalf will be out for the remainder of the regular season, but hopefully the team can still wrap up the AFC North in Week 17.

Steelers' Issues Could Not Have Come At A Worse Time

The Steelers currently have a laundry list of injuries, and Metcalf's suspension is a big distraction. His presence will also be missed on the field, and it comes at a horrific time. The Steelers can clinch the AFC North in Week 17 with a win over the Cleveland Browns or a loss by the Baltimore Ravens when they play the Green Bay Packers on Saturday night. However, if neither of those things happen, the game between the Steelers and Ravens in Week 18 will be for the division, and Metcalf likely won't be on the field.
