Disastrous Stretch For Ravens Continues As Steelers May No Longer Have To Face Lamar Jackson Twice A Year

The Pittsburgh Steelers lived to see another day of their 2025 season after defeating the Baltimore Ravens in a classic on Sunday Night Football in Week 18. There have already been serious ramifications following the contest, as the AFC North division rival made the decision to fire John Harbaugh after 18 campaigns at the helm. It can be debated all day if it was the right move or not, but there seemed to potentially be a little bit of a feud going on between him and star quarterback Lamar Jackson. Now, a coaching search is on and that may not be the only thing Baltimore's ownership has to deal with.

While the Steelers prepare for a Wild Card battle versus the Houston Texans, the Ravens are tasked with bringing in a new leader that can finally take a talented roster to the Promised Land. It has not been easy in the Jackson era, which is why it also could be speculated that the two-time MVP may be interested in getting his own fresh start.

On Wednesday, top NFL insider MIke Florio joined The PM Team w/Poni & Mueller to discuss several topics about what is currently going on with the Steelers and around the league. The ProFootballTalk analyst theorized that Harbaugh getting let go may not be the only drastic move that Baltimore makes. Jackson could also want to be playing elsewhere come the 2026 regular season.

"I don't rule out Lamar Jackson being gone either," Florio stated. "I think he may decide that he wants out. The coaching move, I think, the most critical piece, but this could be a situation where at the end of the day Harbaugh's out and then later, assuming the Ravens can find a trade partner, Lamar Jackson could be out. They both could end up being gone."

Pittsburgh has had its fair share of success against the Ravens during the Harbaugh-Jackson era. The quarterback could never seem to play well in the Steel City, and even when he did like Sunday night, it still resulted in a loss. Florio emphasized that the relationship between the two was indeed getting worse, but just because Harbaugh was fired does not mean that Jackson will want to stay around.

"I think the relationship with Lamar Jackson was part of [the reason to fire Harbaugh], but that doesn't mean Lamar Jackson's still going to be there. It wasn't a decision necessarily between quarterback and coach. It may have just have been coach was the first, and we'll see what happens with the quarterback."

Trading a two-time MVP quarterback that is in his prime would be relatively unprecedented. That doesn't mean, however, that it is impossible. If the signal-caller lets ownership and the front office know that he has no interest in playing for the Ravens in 2026, that group of decision-makers might as well get its money's worth given the situation.

The firing of Harbaugh is certainly a turning of the page for Baltimore, but it also is for Pittsburgh. The Steelers and Ravens had several epic battles over the years that will forever be in the history books.

All it took was one missed field goal to the right to determine the fate of Harbaugh, which only proves that the NFL is a cutthroat league and all organizations are looking to win Super Bowls every year.

Steelers May Also Be Looking For A New Head Coach

It's pretty evident that Head Coach Mike Tomlin won't be fired regardless of what happens against the Texans. That doesn't mean, though, that he might not want to take a step back and walk away from Pittsburgh. It has been a rollercoaster ride of 19 seasons for the head coach, and he may decide that it's the right time to take a breather, be an analyst on television, and then reevaluate his options in 2027.

Do you think that the Steelers and Ravens will both be looking for head coaches in the coming weeks? Let us know in the comments below!
