The Pittsburgh Steelersโ longtime Head Coach Mike Tomlin has decided it is time to step away from coaching after 19 seasons at the helm. There had been plenty of rumblings about a potential departure, but few truly expected the 53-year-old to make this move. Now, the Steelers are preparing to move forward in a new direction.

With so much uncertainty surrounding the news that Tomlin is walking away, fans are eager to find out how this impacts the rest of the staff and the roster. They finally received some clarity. The organization has informed all assistant coaches that they are free to seek opportunities elsewhere since their contracts expire at the end of February. It will be up to the next head coach, whoever that may be, to decide whether to retain any members of the former staff or to implement a complete overhaul.
Fan-favorite special teams coordinator Danny Smith was well known for being caught on camera constantly chewing bubble gum, and many supporters appreciated his personality. However, some who analyzed his on-field production were less impressed. Regardless, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers appear interested, as it was revealed Friday that they have completed an interview with Smith

Smith spent the last 13 seasons working with Tomlin in the Steel City. Every time he appeared on camera during a broadcast, he seemed to be chewing what looked like 13 pieces of gum at once, which quickly became a running joke among fans. He is now the fifth candidate the Buccaneers have interviewed for a position on the coaching staff to work alongside Head Coach Todd Bowles.
