The Pittsburgh Steelers have already been very active in free agency. On the first day of the legal tampering period, they re-signed two of their own players, traded for wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. (ad gave him a new contract), then signed cornerback Jamel Dean to add to their defense. General Manager Omar Khan knows that he is in a very pivotal offseason, and he has to do everything he can to make sure his team can finally end its playoff win drought and truly be feared in the AFC again.

However, the Steelers have already lost a bunch of free agents as well, as they only re-signed two of their own so far as mentioned. Players have been leaving Pittsburgh for somewhat cheap deals across the league, and it happened again. NFL insider Mike Garafolo recently announced that the Arizona Cardinals have agreed to a deal with former Pro Bowl guard Isaac Seumalo.

Offensive line is often seen as a valuable addition, no matter the age that comes with a signing. After the great work that Seumalo has done in Pittsburgh, the Cardinals decided that they need him on their roster to really give their offense a boost. At the very least, he could be used as a mentor while a younger guard sits behind him and learns how to be a quality protector at the NFL level.

Steelers offensive lineman Isaac Seumalo (73) stands on the field next to some of his teammates as the team works out during a 2025 training camp practice at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA.

In Pittsburgh, Seumalo was praised nonstop as a great leader and mentor for a very young offensive line. The Steelers will definitely miss his presence, but at the same time, it felt like the right time to move on and get younger at that spot. If that position can be taken by a young stud of a lineman, that whole unit can gel together and be a truly dominant force for at least the next decade or so.

The Steelers allowed Seumalo to walk primarily due to injury concerns. Over the last two seasons, he missed a total of seven games due with some sort of ailment. During the 2025 campaign, he was constantly put into the blue medical tent with some sort of issue that either popped up or got re-aggravated during the game. If he stays healthy, the Cardinals will have a great addition without outright breaking their bank.

Steelers Have Multiple Options To Replace Seumalo

For starters, Spencer Anderson has stepped into Seumalo's role quite a bit over the previous two seasons. Even with a new coaching staff, the Steelers know exactly how well he has done while stepping in for him. If they like what they saw out of him, he could have pole position to win the starting job in training camp. He's on a contract year, so he will definitely do everything he can to prove that he belongs in Pittsburgh.

Meanwhile, there are also a bunch of quality options available on the open market. The Steelers could go out and sign quality options like Elijah Wilkinson from the Atlanta Falcons or bring back James Daniels from the Miami Dolphins. They could bring in any of these free agents either as a starter or as competition for Anderson in training camp, as well as depth.

The Steelers have made it very clear that they won't draft offensive linemen in the first round due to their lack of combine interviews, but after that, there's no telling when Pittsburgh will draft a lineman to grow and develop in this unit. A guard could end up being an option anywhere to help solidify the line and prepare for any outcome at all.
