The Pittsburgh Steelers have had some average seasons recently, and the offense has especially been difficult to watch ever since Ben Roethlisberger retired following the 2021 season. The best offensive campaign the Steelers have had since then was probably in 2025 with Aaron Rodgers under center, and the veteran quarterback is returning for 2026 after a long and drawn-out decision-making process. Rodgers is back and some people are excited about that. He was arguably the best option for the team when it comes to winning in 2026, and he should have an even better season this time around as he has more weapons to work with on offense.

The wide receiver position has been a little bit weak for Pittsburgh over the last few seasons, and the room looks better than it has recently with DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. leading the way. Rookie wide receiver Germie Bernard is also exciting, while fans are still hoping that Roman Wilson might find some success. Wilson missed nearly his entire rookie season in 2024 with an injury, and towards the end of the 2025 season he was a consistent healthy scratch for Pittsburgh. The assumption was that Rodgers did not have the level of trust in Wilson that was needed to put him out on the field.
The young wide receiver spoke about his relationship with the quarterback during a recent appearance on The Christian Kuntz Podcast.
"I think last year with Aaron, that was pretty cool," Wilson said. "Just being so locked into his signals, how he calls plays, you know? You kind of just have to be on the same wavelength with him. You know, what he's saying, what he's trying to do, but it's been good. Mentally, it's been challenging, but it's been fun and it hasn't been too difficult so far."
Wilson was not going to come out and say that the 2025 season with Rodgers was frustrating, and it probably was cool to learn from one of the best quarterbacks of all time. Hopefully Rodgers allows for Wilson to get back into his good graces if that is in fact what was keeping him off of the field in 2025, especially since Wilson seemed to be the only receiver on the roster in 2025 that could consistently get separation.

Many believed Wilson might be unhappy with Rodgers returning, but he seems to be embracing it as an opportunity to learn some more while trying to redeem himself for the way things went during the 2025 season. It won't be easy as there is now more talent in the wide receiver room, and he is going to be battling Bernard to try and land that third spot on the depth chart.
Whether Wilson beats out Bernard or not, he should be trusted to have some sort of role on the offense. He produced when he was on the field in 2025, and he should be one of the better WR4s in the NFL if that is where he ends up being slotted on the depth chart. It is time for Wilson to find a way to turn his career around. He only has two years left on his rookie deal, and finding a way to get on the field is critical at this juncture.
Steelers Saw Promising Performances Out Of Roman Wilson In 2025
Wilson only got on the field in 13 games during the 2025 season, and he tallied 166 receiving yards on the year with two touchdowns. His best performance came against the Green Bay Packers where he caught four passes for 74 yards and a score. Some of that production came in garbage time, but he did catch a deep shot from Rodgers to start the game.

His meaningful snaps reduced throughout the year, and hopefully he is able to bounce back in his third season in the league.
