Update, the Steelers announced his signing on Friday afternoon. Deal is done.

The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly had a deal in place on March 17 with free agent cornerback, Ahkello Witherspoon. It was reported by Josina Anderson and Jordan Schultz, but according to a source with knowledge of the situation, the two sides have not come to an agreement.

The initial reports claimed that Witherspoon had come to an agreement on a two-year contract worth $8 million. The same exact deal that cornerback Levi Wallace signed a few days prior.

Everyone just assumed the report was valid, and moved on counting him as a Steeler. The big names are usually always right, and especially when it's two big names. Along with the source, we can also connect some dots from the Steelers end.

There's been no official announcement from the team. They've now officially announced each of their free agent signings, and have them all listed on their roster at Steelers.com. Today, Steelers reporter Missi Matthews and WDVE 102.5 radio host Mike Prisuta discussed whether the team should bring back Witherspoon and safety Terrell Edmunds.

We're told the two sides have talked, and it's believed that they're going to eventually reach a deal. But that deal has not been signed yet.

Witherspoon was a huge priority for most of SteelerNation. His solid play over the second half of the season earned him playing time in a rotation with starter Joe Haden.

If Witherspoon isn't signed and goes elsewhere, the door could open for Haden to come back. He was all but long gone in everyone's minds, but that was after it was believed Witherspoon was signed.

Stay tuned for more on this development.
