Steelers Workhorse RB Najee Harris Details the Offense's Explosive Potential; Reveals QB1 Mitch Trubisky's "Turning Heads in Camp"

The Pittsburgh Steelers entered their third week of training camp on Monday. The regular season is quickly approaching with the Steelers set to face off against the Seattle Seahawks in their first preseason game of 2022 this Saturday. Technically, a clear-cut winner has yet to be named in the intriguing quarterback competition in the Steel City. If I'm making a prediction as to when a QB1 will be named, I'd be willing to bet the Steelers and head coach, Mike Tomlin will let this play out until the third preseason game or so. The coaching staff wants quarterbacks Mitch Trubisky, Kenny Pickettand Mason Rudolph to get as many reps as possible before officially naming a starter.

With all the speculation of who will be under center for the Steelers in the upcoming 2022 season, running back Najee Harris seems to be pretty pleased with Trubisky's performance at training camp in Latrobe.

"I think Mitch is actually turning a lot of heads in camp," Harris told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. "He's doing a good job of going through reads and understanding what stuff is, doing a good job of taking on that role. I'm excited to see what he does myself."

"We haven't even put in some of the QB scheme runs -- because he can run. I'm excited about all of that," Harris continued on the mobility of Trubisky.

Harris will likely be the focal point in the Steelers offense this season due to those unknowns at the quarterback position and that's okay! I've stated many times before that if the Steelers are going to have a season in which they are contenders, the offense needs to run through Harris, first and foremost. The offense needs to allow his impressive rushing and receiving abilities to open up the offense for other players to have success as well.

The Steelers' phenomenal second-year running back left practice early last week due to a possible left-foot injury. The team has held him out of being a full participant in training camp since; it's only precautionary, though. They just want their star running back to be fully ready when the season gets underway.

"I always want to practice, always want to play, but I understand what they are doing," Harris said. "They want to see the other guys, see what they can do [too]."

Harris had a very impressive rookie season, but he knows that he's not the only talented guy on this Steelers offense. The Steelers "new era" of offense is loaded with talent in many spots; it's just a matter of reaching their full potential this season.

"We've got a lot of play-makers -- Pat [Freiermuth], Chase [Claypool], Diontae [Johnson], even the new guys with George [Pickens] and [Calvin] Austin and even Connor [Heyward]," Harris continued. "We've got to find a way where we can establish what we do best, get them the ball in space, change the offense in ways we can be more explosive."

One of the players Harris mentioned above has been explosive all training camp. Pickens has wowed everyone that has seen him practice in Latrobe! He surely has the potential to allow this offense to reach new heights in 2022!
