Steelers Rookie QB Kenny Pickett "Doubtful" For Week 15; Starter To Be Named Saturday

Just as expected, Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback, Kenny Pickett's status is in doubt for this weekend's matchup. He was limited for the third straight day in practice on Friday, while wearing his new, updated helmet. Head coach, Mike Tomlin officially listed Pickett's status as "doubtful" heading into the Week 15 game against the Carolina Panthers.

This was expected, as it's the rookie's second concussion in a two-month span. Despite him being at practice in a limited capacity, the team doctors likely won't clear him for Sunday's contest. Tomlin told reporters that he will officially announce the starter on Saturday via Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. That decision will come down to two veterans, Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph.

Of course, that's been a hot topic of debate throughout the week. Trubisky started the first four games for the Steelers this season before he was benched for Pickett in Week 4. He's appeared in two games since, coming in for the rookie when he's picked up both of his concussions. While Trubisky moved the ball quite well in those two appearances, his three interceptions last week has everyone debating on who should start this week.

Rudolph has started 10 games in his NFL career, which have also come with a mixed bag. If he were to start, it would be just his third one in the past three seasons. He's led the Steelers to a 5-4-1 record in his 10 starts, throwing for 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. While this is almost certainly his last season in Pittsburgh, he is ready to rock if need be. It's been a difficult tenure for him, as he's tried to stay as professional as possible.

As for the other veteran, Trubisky, he's shown his frustration at times this season. He was frustrated after his benching in Week 4 and on Friday, he seemingly told reporters that he wished there was a bit more clarity heading into the weekend. With that being said, he'll be ready to start if his number is called upon. At this point, it's anyone's guess as to who will start against the Panthers, but Trubisky probably has the slight edge due to his experience with the team in 2022.

Who do you think should start at QB this weekend: Rudolph or Trubisky? Even if Pickett is cleared, should they keep him out for a week just as a precaution? What's your score prediction against the Panthers? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below, yinz!
