The Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up their second round of interviews today as they interviewed in-house candidate Brandon Hunt for the second time. Hunt is the Steelers’ pro scouting director and has been with the team since 2010. He originally interned with the Steelers in 2005 during their Super Bowl run.
Earlier this offseason Hunt met with the Las Vegas Raiders about their GM vacancy, also met with the Philadelphia Eagles recently for a position in their front office and interviewed with the Buffalo Bills for their Assistant GM opening.

Late on Thursday night Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported that the Steelers may be done with their second round of interviews as of today. He also reports that the team is expected to move onto the next step early next week. Current GM Kevin Colbert is only under contract with the team until May 31.
Steelers are wrapping up GM interviews this week - they might already be done, with Brandon Hunt the last of the six known finalists to interview. But Pittsburgh’s plan is to have that process done by this week and then work on next steps, I’m told. Getting closer.

These are the six candidates that moved onto the second round of interviews as of Thursday evening:
John Spytek (Buccaneers)
Doug Whaley (Last was in Buffalo)
Andy Weidl (Eagles)
Ryan Cowden (Titans)
Omar Khan (Internal)
Brandon Hunt (Internal)
Whaley, and Weidl have both worked for the Steelers previously, and both are from the Pittsburgh area.
From 1998 to 1999, Weidl was a Player Personnel Assistant for the Steelers before similar stints with the New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens, and eventually the Philadelphia Eagles. He previously worked under Tom Donahoe and former Steelers scout and Pro Football Hall of Famer, Bill Nunn.
Whaley worked directly under outgoing Colbert, so his familiarity with the organization should be noted. While with Pittsburgh, Whaley helped scout and draft defensive players such as Lamarr Woodley, Troy Polamalu and Lawrence Timmons. Whaley is a Pitt graduate.
