After the Steelers grew in depth at he safety position during the draft, adding Terrell Edmundson from Virginia Tech in the first round and Marcus Allen from Penn State in the fifth round, they decided to part ways with veteran safety J.J. Wilcox.
Wilcox was brought in last season, and disappointed a lot of fans with a severe lack of playing time. Wilcox made his name known during his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys, so when the Steelers acquired him, they expected a performer.
Sadly, all Wilcox ever amounted to was special teams play and a few snaps here and there during injuries or fatigue from the starters.
While Wilcox was a solid special teams player, he was just not worth the price tag, and it ultimately landed hi out of Pittsburgh.
