LATROBE, PA - As Steeler fans hold their breath with anticipation on the latest report of guard Ramon Foster's left knee, NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala reported Sunday that the 32-year old will avoid needing surgery. The knee was hyperextended, but no ligament damage was caused. Foster should only be out for about 4-5 weeks. Week 1 of the NFL regular season is the goal for his return.
Foster has been a strong foundational piece for the Steelers as he has had more snaps for the team than anyone since 2009. He's started 115/130 games throughout his career, all with the Steelers. As he recovers, backup B.J. Finney will take his place at starting guard. Entering his 3rd season, Finney has started 7 games for the Steelers and has played in 27 overall (all with Steelers).
