It's with great sadness that we report that former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Charles Johnson has passed away at the age of 50. CBS 17 in Wake Forest, North Carolina, had the report first.
Johnson was drafted in the first round of the 1994 NFL draft by the Steelers out of Colorado. Johnson played college football with his eventual NFL quarterback, Kordell Stewart.
During his time in Pittsburgh, Johnson amassed 247 receptions for 3,400 yards and 15 touchdowns before leaving for Philadelphia in 1999. Johnson would spend two seasons with the Eagles before heading to New England. Johnson was part of the Patriots Super Bowl winning team of 2001.
The cause of Johnson's dead has not been released at this time.
