The Pittsburgh Steelers found themselves in a conundrum when Ben Roethlisberger announced his retirement after the 2021 season. While it was long anticipated and he was nowhere near the player he once was, the team suddenly had to find their next quarterback.

On Wednesday, Roethlisberger returned to practice for the first time since his retirement just a few months ago. The future Hall of Fame quarterback was seen chopping it up with head coach Mike Tomlin. It's unclear how often Roethlisberger will return to Acrisure Stadium this season to watch his former running mates. When he does, he'll get one of the louder standing ovations of all-time. Matt Freed of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette captured some phenomenal pictures of Roethlisberger at practice, catching up with Pat Freiermuth, Najee Harris, Tomlin, and others.

It'll be the first time the Steelers have a quarterback other than Ben Roethlisberger in nearly 20 years. The black and gold still don't know who the starter will be between Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett, something Roethlisberger probably kept his eye on at practice. He retired as arguably the best quarterback in team history, right up there with fellow legend Terry Bradshaw.
