The verdict is still up in the air on whether or not the Pittsburgh Steelers have their franchise quarterback. Kenny Pickett had an up-and-down rookie campaign, starting a total of 12 games. The initial box score statistics don't look promising, as he threw for just seven touchdowns along with nine costly interceptions. The rookie showed immense growth though as the season evolved, and he has already become a fan favorite in the city of Pittsburgh.

Forced into action against the New York Jets, Steelers QB Kenny Pickett didn't look back after making his first career appearance.

In an interview with Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus, Pickett said something that will make him even more beloved. Beyond his on-the-field play, fans have come to love his moxie and swagger that he plays with. Several veterans around the team have talked about his leadership and the way that he commands the huddle. When asked what his goals are for 2023 and beyond, Pickett said this:

"My goals are to win. I don’t care how it gets done, what needs to be done," Pickett said via PFF's Sikkema. "I’m not going to give you a number of what I’m aiming for. It’s just to go out there and win."

Inject that right into the veins of Steelers country. His goal isn't to win MVP, or throw for 4,500 yards. His goal isn't even to make the Pro Bowl. Rather, it's simple: to win. For a city like Pittsburgh, that's just what fans want to hear. Many expect him to take a step forward in his sophomore year, but the team's win and losses is the most important aspect. We found that out towards the end of the 2022 season when the black and gold made a run at trying to sneak into the playoffs.

Steelers WR George Pickens caught a game-winning touchdown from QB Kenny Pickett in the team's thrilling Week 16 victory.

Games won't always be pretty, but it's about getting a win at the end of the day. The Week 16 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders exemplified just that. In frigid conditions, Pickett led the team down the field for a game-winning drive on a night that celebrated Franco Harris. Somehow, through all of the ups and downs with a young squad, the Steelers nearly made the postseason at 9-8. Pickett continues to pick up the NFL, and as he does, the offense (and team) should only get better.

What are your thoughts on these comments by the team's signal-caller? Are you convinced that he is the guy for this franchise moving forward? What are your expectations for Pickett in 2023? Share your opinions in the comment section below, as well as on our social media sites!
