This offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers have made it a point to completely revamp their inside linebacker room. With Robert Spillane on his way to Las Vegas and Devin Bush still a free agent (and not likely to sign back with the Steelers), Pittsburgh has already brought in Cole Holcomb and Elandon Roberts as their replacements. So what does this mean for Myles Jack?

On Thursday morning, ESPN's Senior NFL Insider, Adam Schefter reported that Pittsburgh has released the seven-year veteran:

Jack played college football at UCLA, where he was a standout player and a two-way player, playing both linebacker and running back. He was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Throughout his career, Jack has been known for his versatility, athleticism, and ability to make plays all over the field. Injuries however, slowed his progress in his lone season in Pittsburgh. In 2022, Jack started 13 of 15 games, with 104 combined tackles, 3 passes defensed, and just 1 QB hit.

According to Spotrac, Jack has a current cap hit of over $11.2 million dollars in 2023, with a base salary of $8 million dollars. This move will definitely help free up some money for the team as they look to continue signing free agents this offseason, as well as have enough capital left over to sign draft picks.

Steelers continue to free up cap space

This move with Jack also comes after multiple reports that Pittsburgh has also restructured the contract of superstar safety, Minkah Fitzpatrick. That transaction alone should open up over $10 million dollars for the team according to ESPN's Field Yates. Many believe the NFL's 2021 AP Defensive Player of the Year, edge rusher TJ Watt could be eligible for a restructure, as well as defensive captain, Cam Heyward. They both have a cap hit of over $22 million dollars in 2023.
