The Pittsburgh Steelers and its rich history will always appeal to certain players. Recently signed cornerback, Patrick Peterson is the perfect example of that. The 12-year veteran has yet to win a Super Bowl in his otherwise impressive career. It was a major factor in deciding where he would play for the next two seasons, thus why he ultimately decided on the black and gold.

Patrick Peterson makes it official giving a press conference touching on why he joined the Steelers.

Pittsburgh didn't make the playoffs in 2022 and haven't won a postseason contest since 2016, but that didn't stop the defensive back from signing a two-year, $14 million deal. Instead, head coach Mike Tomlin and the Rooney family appealed to his desires as his career nears an end. He wanted somewhere that could compete for a Super Bowl. The aforementioned names have the same desire that Peterson possesses, a willingness to do whatever it takes to win.

Can Peterson help the Steelers get a 7th ring?

If you didn't already know, Peterson has a podcast called All Things Covered that he does with former Steelers DB and his cousin, Bryant McFadden. On their most recent episode, they discussed life since he made the decision to sign with the Steelers. Specifically, Peterson is happy to be surrounded by like-minded individuals throughout the organization.

"[I am] hoping I can come in there and help the room and help the team get where the fans see them. And that's hoisting another one of those Lombardi trophies and becoming the league's leader in Super Bowl championships," Peterson said. "The winning pedigree there is on coach Tomlin's mind and the Rooney family's mind, and that's all they care about. They want to win, and those are the type of guys that I want to be around to end off my career."

Tomlin has always been an avid fan of Peterson, and the Steelers were even connected to the corner several years back when he was with the Arizona Cardinals. While he isn't the All-Pro guy that he was in Arizona, Peterson has plenty of good football left. He'll even play some safety in Pittsburgh, as Tomlin talked about on Monday. The veteran seems willing to do anything to capture a chance at his first SB ring.

As for the record that the DB referred to, Tom Brady helped the New England Patriots tie the Steelers' record for six Super Bowls back in 2019. Those are the only two teams with six rings at the moment, but the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys are just behind them with five rings apiece. The 49ers head into 2023 as one of the favorites to win the SB, which would create a three-way tie.

With some more signings and draft picks on the way, does this team have a legitimate chance to compete in 2023? What are your expectations for Peterson in his tenure with the black and gold? Do you think he will have a Joe Haden-like impact? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
