Steelers Elite Safety Is Transported To Hospital After Week 2 Win

In a game full of chaos and brutal injuries, both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns lost star players. The injury to Nick Chubb of the Browns was so horrific that ESPN refused to show it for the longest time, and we all hope that he will fully recover and be back on the field sooner rather than later. Meanwhile, the Steelers saw one of their own stars get injured, and no one knew how bad it was, but clearly it was concerning enough that he had to be transported to UPMC.

Who Did The Steelers Lose?

On a 69-yard run by Jerome Ford, Minkah Fitzpatrick was able to make the touchdown-saving tackle but got injured in the process. This was already his second time going down in the game, and this one was more serious. While no one truly knew what happened, he was eventually ruled out for the game. In the postgame press conference, Mike Tomlin gave an update on Fitzpatrick's status. Luckily, it's not as bad as Chubb's, but it is still very worrisome.

Ian Rappaport reported the news from the press conference. Fitzpatrick was transported to the hospital for further evaluation. While being at the hospital doesn't automatically mean he has a terrible injury, it's still not a good sign for him to be quickly transported there. We will await the official statement of what happened and what will happen to Fitzpatrick, and we will keep you posted.

On the replay of the play that ended Fitzpatrick's night, it's hard to tell exactly what happened to cause the injury. He barely makes the tackle on Ford by the feet to keep him from scoring. It doesn't appear as if Ford kicked Fitzpatrick in the chest. While Fitzpatrick was breathing heavy after the play, that still seems normal as he had to run a long way just to make the shoestring tackle.

Fitzpatrick left after that play, as he was not in the for the next few plays that resulted in a touchdown and a two-point conversion for the Browns, and he was later ruled out for the rest of the game. It is very clear that something had to happen on that particular play to end his night prematurely. Hopefully, everyone will get clarity on that later Monday.

The first time Fitzpatrick got hurt in the game was also the play that unfortunately ended Chubb's season with that gruesome injury. That seems to be clearer, as Chubb's knee collided with something of Fitzpatrick's, likely his head. Fitzpatrick would later return for that drive, which also ended in a touchdown and a two-point conversion.

Steelers Nick Chubb

There were plenty of other injuries in this game besides Fitzpatrick and Chubb. Gunner Olszewski left the game after taking a shot to the chest that resulted in a fumble. Za'Darius Smith and Greg Newsome also left the game for the Browns. Both teams could end up going into Week 3 with lots of talent lost. For the Steelers, most of that talent didn't even get hurt in this game.

The Steelers had to place three different players on Injures Reserve after their Week 1 embarrassment, with two of those players going on Injured Reserve right before kickoff. The defensive captain for the Steelers, Cameron Heyward, went on IR early in the week after confirming that he will need surgery and will be our eight weeks. Diontae Johnson and Anthony McFarland were late additions to IR, and due to the timing of the placement, neither of them will be allowed to return until after the Week 6 bye.

What do you think about the injury to Minkah Fitzpatrick, as well as Nick Chubb and the other players that have gotten injured? Let us know in the comments, and we hope that they all have as well of a recovery as they can, especially Fitzpatrick and Chubb.
