The Pittsburgh Steelers got rid of wide receiver, Chase Claypool in the middle of his third season in the NFL due to his selfish attitude and off the field antics. He was traded to the Chicago Bears for their 2023 second-round pick, which ended up leading to Joey Porter Jr. finding his way to the Steel City. Claypool's time in Chicago was a disaster, and he was traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2023 for just a sixth-round pick.

Former Steelers Wide Receiver Claypool Has Disastrous Play In Germany

The Dolphins are taking on the Kansas City Chiefs in Frankfurt, Germany in Week 9 of the 2023 NFL season. This is the lone game being played at 9:30 am on the Sunday during Week 9, so all eyes are on it. It is a highly touted match-up between two teams that currently sit atop the AFC as they both have a record of 6-2. It is likely this game will be major factor in deciding who gets home field advantage in the playoffs.

Early in the game, one of the Dolphins star wide receivers, Jaylen Waddle, exited the game briefly due to an injury. Waddle eventually made his return to the game, but while he was being attended to on the sideline, he was replaced on the field by Claypool. Claypool has been a Dolphin since Week 5 when he was traded from the Bears, and so far he has just one catch for 15 yards that came in Week 8 against the New England Patriots.

In Claypool's Germany debut, he looked confused on where to line-up on the field and as if he didn't know the play Miami had planned to run. He had to be told by his teammates where he should be lining up. After figuring out where to be on the field, Claypool was called for a false start which pushed the offense back five yards. The video of the referee calling the penalty on Claypool is going somewhat viral as the ref announced the penalty in german.

Claypool's NFL career since being traded from Pittsburgh has been a disaster. During his time with the Bears, the team never won a game. His stint in Chicago only lasted ten games, and he only caught 18 passes for less than 200 yards and scored just one touchdown. There were reports of the coaching staff being upset with his offseason progress, and towards the end of his tenure as a Bear he called out the coaching staff in a press conference for using him wrong within the offense.

Pittsburgh Steelers former receiver Chase Claypool has now worn out his welcome again with the 2023 trade sending him from the Bears to the Dolphins

All of these things that went wrong in Chicago led to the Bears organization deciding to part ways with Claypool. He was a healthy inactive for his last couple of weeks in Chicago while the front office tried to find the appropriate trade partner. They announced that if they couldn't find a trade partner, Claypool would be released. Eventually the Dolphins called to gain some depth at the receiver position.

Claypool's NFL career seems to be on life support. He is not seeing meaningful playing time with the Dolphins, and when he does get on the field he has made some mistakes. With all the issues he caused in Chicago paired with the lack of productivity he had on the field, it is crazy to think Steelers General Manager Omar Khan was able to trade Claypool for a second-round pick. Especially the first pick of the second-round which led to the Steelers getting their lockdown corner of the future in Porter Jr.

Hopefully Claypool finds a way to get back on the right track in the NFL. He made up for his early penalty by recovering a fumble by Raheem Mostert later in the game which was a huge play that kept the Dolphins offense on the field as they trailed 21-14.
