The Pittsburgh Steelers are desperate to fill many obvious holes within their current roster. There are glaring needs at center, safety, and now wide receiver after General Manager Omar Khan traded Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers. The Steelers will likely look to add a receiver or two through the 2024 NFL Draft, but it is important the front office makes a move to acquire an experienced wideout through free agency. A hot name for the role has been Tyler Boyd, who played high school football in the area and attended Pitt.

Boyd has obvious ties to Pittsburgh. He grew up in the area and has battled against the Steelers twice a season ever since he was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2016. Fans have wanted Boyd to be a member of the Steelers for a long time, and now there is an opportunity for him to return home. The 29-year old wide receiver is not expected to return to the Bengals, and he would perfectly fill a role the Steelers desperately need now that George Pickens is the only truly experienced receiver on the roster. It was reported by Mark Kaboly that Boyd and the Steelers are talking, and Boyd returning to Pittsburgh is a serious possibility.

Boyd is coming off of his eighth season in the NFL, which were all spent in Cincinnati. He has played in 120 NFL games, which is the kind of experience the Steelers should desire in a receiver coming into the wide receiver room as it is currently constructed. Boyd had 67 catches in 2023, along with 667 yards and two touchdowns.

Boyd has been consistent throughout his career, and has been versatile as well, playing as the first, second, and third wide receiver while in Cincinnati. His best seasons came in 2018 and 2019 when he eclipsed 1,000 yards in each season, while recording a combined 166 receptions. Boyd would be a valuable role model to Pickens and any wide receiver the Steelers draft, while also being productive as the number two or number three receiver.

Steelers Have Serious Issues At Wide Receiver
When the Steelers traded Johnson to Carolina, they fixed a need at cornerback by getting Donte Jackson in return. Pittsburgh already needed a third wide receiver after releasing Allen Robinson II, and now they need two receivers that could complement Pickens in 2024. Boyd would fix this issue, and be able to be a veteran leader on the offensive side of the ball with a ton of experience.
