The Pittsburgh Steelers shocked fans with the announcement of trading their talented, yet often disgruntled wide receiver, Diontae Johnson, to the Carolina Panthers. Despite the reassurance of retaining the promising George Pickens, the team still lacks an additional starting-caliber wideout, leaving a void yet to be filled.

Amidst speculation that Clairton, Pennsylvania native Tyler Boyd from the Cincinnati Bengals would likely join the Steelers, recent reports suggest internal conflict and struggle within the organization regarding this potential move, as revealed by Mark Kaboly.

As a free agent for the first time in his career, Boyd faces an uncertain future, with indications suggesting that the Bengals won't be re-signing him. This leaves the door wide open for the underrated third-string wide receiver to find a new home in 2024. Steelers fans had been hopeful that Boyd would join Pittsburgh to help fill the void left by Johnson. However, according to Kaboly's report, the situation appears considerably bleaker than it did just a week ago.

At 29 years old, Boyd has spent his entire eight-season career with the Bengals, establishing himself as a reliable weapon on the field. Drafted by the Bengals in the 2nd round (55th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft, Boyd has appeared in 120 games, amassing an impressive stat line of 513 catches for 6,000 yards and 31 touchdowns in his career. Despite being the third wide receiver on the Bengals' roster, Boyd has consistently delivered remarkable productivity.

Known for his gritty playing style and penchant for trash-talking, Boyd has garnered attention for his vocal exchanges, particularly with his hometown team, the Steelers. His potential addition to the team would not only enhance their offensive firepower, but also contribute to the team's culture. However, according to Kaboly's report, internal concerns within the organization now cast doubt on the likelihood of Boyd joining the Steelers.

Steelers Schedule A Visit With Big Play Wide Receiver Mike Williams

The news broke on Sunday evening that the Steelers had scheduled a visit with former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver, Mike Williams. Known for his ability to score touchdowns and make big plays down the field, Williams has also grappled with injuries throughout his career. Last season, his campaign was cut short in Week 3 due to an ACL tear. Securing a deal with Williams would likely signal the end of pursuit for Boyd.

Given the unconventional approach of Omar Khan this offseason, nothing seems out of reach for the Steelers. The unexpected acquisition of two quarterbacks earlier in the offseason demonstrated Khan's willingness to explore all options. With the recent addition of Van Jefferson, either Boyd or Williams would undoubtedly bolster the team significantly.

As Steeler Nation eagerly awaits, the Steelers' strategies to enhance their wide receiver corps will unfold. With the arrival of two new quarterbacks, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, in town, it's imperative for the Steelers to assemble the most formidable offense to complement their new signal-callers.
