The Pittsburgh Steelers are meticulously honing their draft strategy, placing a sharp emphasis on fortifying their lineup at the center and wide receiver positions. While these areas take precedence, they're also deliberating over enhancements to their offensive line, cornerback position, and even the defensive line.

Initially, all eyes were on Oregon's standout center, Jackson Powers-Johnson, hailed as the Steelers' top prospect. However, recent developments have redirected attention to a rising talent: West Virginia's Zach Frazier. Frazier's meteoric rise in draft rankings has piqued the Steelers' interest, sparking serious consideration within the organization.

Andrew Fillipponi, a media personality who covers the Steelers, has unveiled a palpable eagerness within the Steelers' inner circle to navigate the draft board strategically, all in pursuit of securing Frazier's coveted talents.

Reports suggest that the Steelers are actively exploring avenues to ascend the draft order, aiming to secure the services of the highly-regarded WVU center. Fillipponi's revelations hint at the organization's profound admiration for Frazier, envisioning him as a potential day-one starter with the capacity to make an immediate impact.

“Zach Frazier could step in and start day one for us.”

Frazier's meteoric rise in draft stock is largely attributed to his remarkable recovery from the injury sustained during the Mountaineers' final regular-season game at Baylor.

Renowned for his team-first mentality, Frazier is a dynamic force on the field, adept at both leading blocks and providing steadfast protection for the quarterback. His background in wrestling has proven instrumental in his development as a center, evident in his pivotal role in revitalizing the Mountaineers' football program and anchoring their offensive line.

Throughout his collegiate career, Frazier demonstrated remarkable consistency, allowing just four sacks in total, with a mere one sack conceded during his final two seasons at WVU. With an impressive streak of 37 consecutive starts at center and a total of 46 collegiate starts under his belt, Frazier's leadership qualities shine through, having served as team captain for three consecutive seasons. Garnering recognition as a two-time All-American, he amassed over 170 career knockdowns during his tenure.

Frazier epitomizes the Steelers' ethos and embodies the quintessential qualities sought after in a center. Widely regarded by experts as NFL-ready, he stands poised to make an immediate impact, aligning perfectly with the Steelers' vision for their draft pick at center.

Steelers Have Plenty Of Options At Center

The Steelers find themselves in a fortunate yet challenging position. While entering the draft with the imperative to secure an immediate starter is less than ideal, they're not short on options.

The intrigue lies in the risk of where to allocate their picks. Graham Barton from Duke has emerged as a tantalizing prospect, with his stock on the rise owing to his versatility across multiple positions. However, his ultimate destination remains uncertain. While some speculate the Steelers might utilize their first-round pick on Barton to address multiple needs, the reality is he can only fill one position.

This presents a dilemma: opting for Barton could mean passing on a center like Frazier, with no guarantee that Frazier will still be available in the second round. The likelihood of Frazier slipping to round two appears slim, necessitating potential trades and strategic maneuvering by the Steelers if they opt for the Frazier route. Nevertheless, the Steelers possess ample options to shore up the center position, ensuring they remain well-positioned to make the right moves on draft day.
