The Pittsburgh Steelers need some help at the cornerback position despite having Joey Porter Jr. emerging as one of the league's top corners. Speculation has surrounded the team and a potential decision to bring back a former defender in either Cameron Sutton or Patrick Peterson. Fans now have their answers as a report came out about the organization's plans.

Steelers General Manager, Omar Khan signs for and meets with fans during the team's 2023 training camp at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA.

Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported on social media Wednesday that General Manager Omar Khan and Head Coach Mike Tomlin are set to finalize the reunion with Sutton shortly.

Sutton has dealt with some legal issues throughout the 2024 offseason which led to him being released by the Detroit Lions after just one season with the franchise. The expected signing all but ensures that Peterson isn't likely to return to the Steel City after he was let go following just a lone season with the Steelers. Sutton is younger and can still play at a high level. One has to assume his off-the-field issues aren't of too much concern.

Former Steelers cornerback Cameron Sutton leaps to snag a football out of the air as the team warms up prior to a 2022 regular season game at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA.

Sutton spent his first six seasons in Pittsburgh before inking a huge three-year deal with Detroit. The news of release immediately sparked intrigue in the Steel City, and now it appears a reunion is going to officially occur. The corner has played in 101 career games and has 233 tackles, nine interceptions and two sacks on his resume. If all of his legal issues are resolved, this could be another low-risk, high-reward signing for the Steelers.

Pittsburgh has another notable veteran on the roster for the minimum. That would be Russell Wilson. Khan is being financially strategic in filling out the roster that has to make one believe he could be preparing to make some kind of move when it comes to the wide receiver position.

Steelers New Focus Must Be Wide Receiver

Now that the team is expected to add much-needed depth at cornerback, a true wide receiver two must be brought on board via a trade. The two questionable areas as mandatory minicamp is set to begin were corner and wideout. Sutton checks a ton of boxes, and now George Pickens needs someone opposite of him on the offensive side just like Porter got on defense.
