Along with rounding out the roster, the 2024 campaign also marks the beginning of season 18 for Head Coach Mike Tomlin at the helm of the Steelers. Tomlin, who took the reigns from Hall of Fame Coach Bill Cowher in 2007, has been widely regarded as one of the best coaches to play for in the NFL. Thanks to the accolades and accomplishments won by Tomlin, an extension to his contract this offseason signifies that there is plenty in the tank for a man seemingly destined for Canton, Ohio.
In an interview with NFL Network following the conclusion of camp on Sunday, All-Pro Linebacker TJ Watt spoke about what it is Tomlin does to keep things fresh year after year.
"It's a new message every year. It's the same tone. As soon as Mike T. walks in a room, he commands the room. Everybody in the room has respect. Everybody should be able to experience a team meeting from Mike T. He's got so many sayings, but he speaks from the heart. He's able to relate to so many people. Whether you're from Georgia like Broderick [Jones], or like me from Wisconsin, all different backgrounds, he's able to relate to people and motivate them," Watt said.
Under Tomlin, the Steelers have won seven division titles, earned 11 playoff appearances (including two Super Bowls), and have gone 181-110-2 overall (including the postseason). Tomlin's innate ability to lead has transformed the Steelers into a model of consistency to the rest of the NFL.
Despite all the comments made towards Tomlin criticizing his lack of postseason success, the coach most known for his record of never having a losing season as a head coach, is someone who gives the team a fighting chance every time.

Steelers' Tomlin Is A Special Head Coach
What makes a franchise successful is consistency. It's a trend you see among the dynasties of the NFL. The New England Patriots were the most dynamic team of the early 2000's because of the consistent in ownership, coaching, and in the pillar players like Tom Brady.
The exact same formula is being employed in Kansas City with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.
Even with the problems offensively over the last several seasons, ownership and coaching have remained solid in Pittsburgh, ensuring that the team always has a chance.

Since 1969, the Steelers have only had three head coaches between Tomlin, Cowher, and Hall of Famer Chuck Noll. When the coach remains the same, the message and culture stays in place. This is where the Steeler Way was born. The secret weapon for Tomlin has been his ability to be there for his players. Whether it be allegations, or suspensions, he stands by his guys, earning him the respect Watt mentioned. He fights for his players, and his players fight for him.
Tomlin has faced several tests in his career, but none potentially more daunting than the test he faces in 2024. With several new pieces in key areas, as well as the toughest schedule in the NFL, several fans and analysts alike project this being the first season Tomlin does not go .500 or better. However, if history has taught fans anything, it's don't count out the Steelers, and certainly don't count out Tomlin.
