First Steelers Trade Scenario For Davante Adams Presented By The 33rd Team Is Absolutely Atrocious

The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for a Week 5 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. Although it's non-conference contest, both organizations will want to show out and get the win in primetime. Some of the media attention leading up to the game, however, might be about both teams' potential opportunity to trade for Las Vegas Raiders star wide receiver Davante Adams. The Brandon Aiyuk saga for Pittsburgh's fan base ended just prior to the regular season, but it appears the Steel City will once again be roped into a bunch of trade talk regarding a brilliant pass-catcher.

Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams stands on the frustration looking frustrated during a professional football contest in Las Vegas, NV.

Adams was rumored to be a potential trade candidate in the 2024 offseason, but stated that he'd like to stay in Las Vegas. That all has quickly changed and reports on Tuesday suggested that he wants to be out, and rather quickly.

The Steelers will be one of the first teams that comes to pundits' minds due to the lack of a second threat in the receiving game opposite of George Pickens. For a trade to really be worth it for Pittsburgh, an important piece of the puzzle is having a dynamic duo of both Pickens and Adams. One outlet, The 33rd Team, threw out a ludicrous scenario on Tuesday evening.

It's asinine to even propose that the Steelers would give up one of the more promising young wide receivers in the game and a third-round pick for a near 32-year-old who could just be a rental player based on his contract. Steelers fans could probably be convinced that a third-rounder is worth it, but when you throw Pickens in there, it immediately becomes a moot deal.

Steelers wide receiver George Pickens (#14) prepares to haul in a catch during a 2023 training camp practice at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA.

Fans on social media were extremely quick to react to the proposed trade, especially since others thrown out there didn't include the any other teams' best pass-catchers. Pickens was selected by the Steelers in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He has 135 catches for 2,225 receiving yards and nine touchdowns since. He is going to get paid a significant amount in the 2025 offseason, but it should still come in at less than what Adams is currently due in 2025.

Any trade involving the Steelers would likely include one, or multiple draft picks. A second piece to the puzzle may be re-working Adams' deal, or else he will probably be released once the season is over due to his contract status. It's going to be an interesting week as teams around the league prepare for Week 5; one of the NFL's most consistent pass-catchers over the last decade may be wearing new colors before kickoff on Sunday.

Pittsburgh is certainly an attractive location for a player to be traded to. Justin Fields has blossomed in his first year with the team and he might need just one more weapon on offense to take the next step. Pair that fact with playing for Head Coach Mike Tomlin, and Adams may prefer to be in the Steel City.

Steelers 1 More Key Piece Away From Offense Producing Consistently

There's no doubt that the offense in Pittsburgh has the potential to be better than in recent seasons. The unit put up 24 points in Week 4, but a poor defensive performance led to a loss. Bringing in Adams via trade may be the perfect addition, but the key will be the asking price put forth by Las Vegas. One thing is for sure and that is that there is no chance Pickens is a part of any deal.
