The Pittsburgh Steelers are once again involved in trade rumors surrounding a dynamic, big-play wide receiver. First, throughout the 2024 offseason, it was Brandon Aiyuk from the San Francisco 49ers. Now, as Week 5 of the regular season progresses, the organization has quickly been tied to Las Vegas Raiders star Davante Adams after the pass-catcher requested to be dealt somewhere new. The New York Jets are the most likely to acquire the three-time All-Pro, but it’s expected that General Manager Omar Khan will be on the phones and seeing what it would take to bring the play-maker to the Steel City.

The reporting will fly around as each day goes on, with several insiders looking to get the scoop on Adams’ potential new team. One of the best in the business, Ian Rapoport from NFL Network, reported on Thursday morning that several teams, including the Steelers, have interest. The feeling from Adams is apparently mutual.

“The New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys and perhaps the San Francisco 49ers are among teams that either have inquired about the six-time Pro Bowler or are places Adams would be happy landing,” Rapoport wrote.

Just prior to that note, Rapoport mentioned that there are several teams Adams is "open" to playing for. The Steelers are mentioned second, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to put together that most players in the league would like to play for Head Coach Mike Tomlin, and Adams is likely to be one of those individuals based on Rapoport's comments.

That could be the key to this whole thing. Adams reportedly prefers to play for the Jets, but there’s no guarantee that a deal gets done. It’s good to know that Adams is open to landing in Pittsburgh, among other cities, not called New York. It is going to be an exciting and anxiety-filled couple of days, or weeks, for Steelers fans. The team desperately needs a top-notch wideout to pair with George Pickens.

Adams has been incredibly effective throughout his career in the NFL. His best days were with the Green Bay Packers, which is why it makes sense that he would prefer to be with his old pal Aaron Rodgers in New York. That doesn't mean that the Raiders and Jets will come to an agreement, however. Las Vegas has the leverage in the situation, knowing that Adams' preferred landing spot is The Big Apple.

Steelers Should Be Entertaining Significant Trade Package To Get Adams

Pittsburgh could very well be one wide receiver away from becoming a serious contender in the AFC. The conference, as a whole, has had some interesting moments in 2024 thus far and while the Kansas City Chiefs are the lone undefeated team, Patrick Mahomes is not playing his best football. There is a window of opportunity, and Khan should be willing to give up multiple draft picks to acquire Adams and complete the offense.
