The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to be heavily involved in the wide receiver trade market as the deadline quickly approaches. General Manager Omar Khan has missed out on several opportunities to acquire a top pass-catcher, which hasn't been received well by the fan base. George Pickens was always expected to be the leading receiver, but if the team wants to make a run in the postseason, it is pretty evident that a reinforcement will be needed in order to boost the offense's potential. There's not much time to get something done, and things just got worse for Khan and co.

A top name that has been linked to the Steelers for a good portion of the season is DeAndre Hopkins. The veteran has been wildly consistent throughout his career, but was always expected to be traded by the Tennessee Titans. That belief has come to fruition, according to Ian Rapoport.

The worst part about the situation is that Hopkins is now headed to play with the best quarterback in the NFL in Patrick Mahomes. The Steelers will have to take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day in Pittsburgh.

The Chiefs are the current back-to-back Super Bowl champions and have the only undefeated record left in the NFL. An addition like Hopkins makes perfect sense, and comes at a reasonable price for a rental player that could help the organization win a third championship in a row. One has to believe that Khan is still cooking up something big to help Pittsburgh.

Steelers Could Get Advantage With Another Trade Candidate After Hopkins Move

One could argue that the acquisition of Hopkins will lead the Chiefs to look away from Los Angeles Rams wideout Cooper Kupp. In that case, Pittsburgh may have just moved up a slot in Kupp's hopeful destinations (if he does indeed get dealt). There will be plenty of speculation in the coming weeks, but fans in the Steel City would certainly be happy to see Kupp in black and gold. Hopkins may have been looked at as more attractive due to his contract, however.
