The Pittsburgh Steelers improved their practice squad on Friday, signing wide receiver Andy Isabella to the practice squad. Isabella, a 2019 second-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals, brings quickness and a solid route-running skill set that adds depth to the Steelers' receiver options. Known for his speed, Isabella could be a valuable asset in both the passing game and special teams, where his agility might provide the Steelers with an added spark.

Since entering the league, Isabella has shown flashes of his potential but hasn’t fully solidified his role on an NFL roster. With the Steelers, he has an opportunity to work with a fresh system and showcase his talent among a competitive receiver group. If he performs well in practice, Isabella could see himself activated for game days, offering another target in the Steelers' offensive scheme.

The Steelers' wide receiver room is an ideal place for a player like Isabella seeking a fresh opportunity. While George Pickens shines as the star of the group, the depth behind him has faced scrutiny. Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin III, and Scotty Miller have all received added chances to prove themselves, underscoring the need for competition and versatility in Pittsburgh's receiving corps.

Criticism over depth concerns has led the Steelers to bolster their practice squad with additional wideouts, often activating players on game days to fill immediate needs. While Isabella’s path to the active roster remains uncertain, his speed and experience could give him an edge if the team calls on him to step up.

Steelers May Give Andy Isabella A Chance On Active Roster

Isabella's career hasn’t unfolded as he envisioned when he was drafted in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Over seven NFL seasons, he has caught 33 passes for 447 yards and three touchdowns. Known for his speed, Isabella clocked a 4.56 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. Throughout his career, he’s suited up for the Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, and the Buffalo Bills, showing glimpses of his potential along the way.

Although Isabella’s career hasn’t yet reached the heights he or others anticipated, he now has a fresh opportunity on the Steelers’ practice squad. With a wide receiver room full of players looking to prove themselves, he could find himself on the active roster if he capitalizes on his chances.

While Pittsburgh isn’t placing high expectations on him, it’s always possible for a career to turn around—and Isabella will be ready for any opportunity that comes his way in the Steel City.
