The Pittsburgh Steelers may not have broken the 30-point threshold, but their offense was still clicking in their 26-18 win over the New York Giants. The team amassed 426 yards of total offense and 6.8 yards per play, as they could not be stopped (except in the red zone for some reason). While they still need to learn how to properly finish a drive, there is still a lot of optimism in the Steel City. Russell Wilson may be the quarterback that Pittsburgh desperately needed since Ben Roethlisberger's final years.

Steelers' Russell Wilson talking with Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith.
While on 93.7 The Fan, Joe Starkey had endless praise for the new-age Steelers offense, and he explained why everything is different.
"It's only going to get better. There's adults in the room! There's no more Kenny Pickett. There's no more Matt Canada. There's adults in the room. Russell Wilson has been there and done that many times, including, contrary to popular belief, just last season in Denver, with a coach who hated him. Arthur Smith has come in and lent a professionalism to the offense."
The Steelers managed to get over 400 yards in each of Wilson's first two starts, which is one of the reasons why Starkey is confident that this offense will only get better. While the defense and special teams have bene playing complementary football with the offensive attack, the team may be able to rely on their offense first and foremost, as opposed to hoping they do just enough to win.

Pittsburgh Steelers’ former offensive coordinator, Matt Canada was unable to properly develop second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett.
Of course, the main reason was the new faces in the locker room. When the Steelers actually fire a coach, you know something is wrong. Don't let the bald head and graying beard fool you: Matt Canada was a child. That child refused to allow his assistants to help him at all. It was his way or the highway, no questions asked.
His way was a complete failure. The Steelers' offense was the joke of the league. The only reason why they won more than they lost in each of his seasons in Pittsburgh was because of how elite the defense was. They were able to hold opposing defenses to a minimal score, which made it so the team could win without scoring 20 points in most weeks.
Despite being held back by the worst offensive coordinator in the league at the time, Kenny Pickett was also a child. Teams tend to "ride the hot hand" whenever they can, which resulted in Mason Rudolph starting, even once Pickett finally got healthy from a late-season injury in 2023. Instead of cheering on his teammate, he threw a fit about it. Rudolph engineered a high-powered offense, unlike the young quarterback, whether it was his fault or not.

Steelers’ former first round draft choice was not comfortable with sitting on the bench in 2024.
When the Steelers signed Wilson for a camp competition, Pickett allegedly threw another fit, as he wanted no part in a quarterback competition. In a twist of irony, Pittsburgh shipped him across the state to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he had absolutely no chance of starting for the team. The Steelers were looking for men, not babies.
Steelers Heard A Phrase That They Have Not Heard In Years
Starkey continued with praising the offense, as there was a note from the commentators that Steeler Nation has sorely missed.
"The touchdown throw to [Calvin] Austin, Troy Aikman said, 'That's an easy pitch and catch.' I don't think I ever heard that phrase with Matt Canada as the offensive coordinator. That's an easy pitch and catch?"
On that play, Wilson displayed one of his patented "moon balls" as he dropped it perfectly in the breadbasket of Calvin Austin III. Austin had lots of separation on the play and scored easily. It is rare that any deep pass in the NFL is considered easy, and Wilson just had a free touchdown pass. He just had to get it in front of Austin so he can catch it without the defender closing in and trot into the end zone. When was the last time that happened for the Steelers?
