The Pittsburgh Steelers must decide on a lot of things during the 2025 offseason that will affect the future of the franchise. One of these situations involves the quarterback position, which is significant. Another big decision that will be made involves wide receiver George Pickens. He becomes eligible for an extension during the offseason, but it is highly likely that the Steelers will look to part ways with the often-troublesome player. Potential trade opportunities should become more clear as the offseason continues along, but a clear option has opened up that would send Pickens to the West Coast.

Trade rumors have surrounded Pickens for quite some time, but it seems like it could be a true reality during the 2025 offseason. The Steelers are unlikely to extend the receiver, and they would rather receive something for him rather than just lose him once the 2025 season comes to a close.
An option that could be considered is the Los Angeles Rams, who have an older team with two main pieces being Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp. Both of those players seem unsure about their futures in Los Angeles, and NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported specifically on Stafford Sunday morning.
"The LA Rams do face an open question about their quarterback Matthew Stafford." Rapoport said. "He's going to be 37 years old next year, really solid season this year, but said after the season that he wants to take some time to think about his future. Sean McVay saying that he would rather have answers sooner than later of course because if it's not Stafford, they are going to have to replace him. Last year Stafford signed a one-year $40 million, re-worked contract. No guaranteed money for next year, he's due $27.5 million, obviously not going to play for that."
Not only is Stafford contemplating retirement, but he is also contemplating his future with the Rams. He won't play for the $27.5 million he is owed in 2025, and if the organization isn't willing to re-work his contract once again, then he could be playing elsewhere. The Steelers have a lot of questions at quarterback, and despite his age, Stafford would be a big upgrade at the position.

It is hard to imagine Stafford or Kupp playing without one another in Los Angeles, and the wide receiver has already been open about his uncertain future. Kupp made it clear he intends to play football in 2025, but he was talked about a lot at the trade deadline during the 2024 campaign. It is a real possibility that the Rams decide to move on from Kupp, and Stafford, especially if it gives the offense a chance to get younger.
The Steelers sending Pickens to Los Angeles along with some draft picks for Stafford and Kupp would make sense for both sides. It would be seen as a win-now move for Pittsburgh, while the Rams get younger at wide receiver as the organization searches for its next quarterback.

Steelers Sending George Pickens To Los Angeles Makes Too Much Sense
Trading Pickens to the Rams is the perfect move for the Steelers. They are in the NFC, and the Steelers would have to take on two sizable contracts in Kupp and Stafford, which should give the organization a break when it comes to draft capital involved in the deal. Stafford would need a re-worked contract, and the Rams would be able to sign Pickens to an extension if they wanted.
Other parts of the trade could include some day three picks going the Rams' way, or some sort of swap so Los Angeles can move up in the draft. With both Stafford and Kupp being on the tail end of their careers, a trade like this shouldn't compromise the future for the Steelers.
