The Pittsburgh Steelers now have an exciting option after major news broke in the NFL on Wednesday—Seattle Seahawks star wide receiver DK Metcalf has officially requested a trade, and the team is willing to explore it. With the Steelers already in need of a true WR2 following the departure of Diontae Johnson before the 2024 season, Metcalf instantly becomes a game-changing possibility for Pittsburgh’s offense.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver, DK Metcalf (#14) catches a touchdown over former Pittsburgh Steelers safety, Terrell Edmunds (#34) at Heinz Field back in 2019.
Metcalf, a three-time 1,000-yard receiver, would be a perfect complement to George Pickens, giving the Steelers a dominant, physical wideout duo that could elevate Russell Wilson, Justin Fields or whoever the Steelers quarterback will be in 2024. His combination of size, speed, and playmaking ability would add an explosive element the Steelers are currently lacking. While acquiring him would come at a cost—likely a high draft pick or more—Pittsburgh has already made it very clear they want to improve their wide receiver room.
With Metcalf now available, the Steelers must decide if they’re willing to make a bold move to upgrade their offense. The Steelers now have an incredible chance to make a bold move to change the outlook of their offense for the 2025 NFL season. The report broke on Wednesday via NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

According to Pelissero, Metcalf met with the Seahawks on Wednesday morning, and it was during that meeting that both sides decided to explore trade opportunities. Metcalf is entering the final season of his contract, with $18 million remaining, making him an attractive trade target for teams in need of a premier wide receiver. Any team willing to give up the necessary assets to acquire him would likely aim to negotiate a long-term extension to ensure he remains a cornerstone of their offense for years to come.

Steelers General Manager Omar Khan speaks to members of the media during a press conference at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, IN.
The idea of the Steelers trading for Metcalf isn’t far-fetched at all. In many ways, he shares similarities with Pickens—both are big, physical receivers with explosive playmaking ability. However, trying to cover both Pickens and Metcalf on the same field would create nightmare scenarios for opposing secondaries.
If Omar Khan can strike a deal to bring Metcalf to Pittsburgh, it could be the move that reshapes the Steelers' offense heading into the 2025 season. Khan has faced a fair amount of unfair criticism from Steelers fans for not being able to land a star wide receiver.
During the 2024 offseason, Khan was on the brink of pulling off a massive blockbuster trade with the San Francisco 49ers to bring Brandon Aiyuk to Pittsburgh, but that deal fell through at the last minute. Now, Khan has a golden opportunity for redemption. With the chance to acquire Metcalf, he can silence critics and make a move that significantly boosts the Steelers’ offense for the future.
Steelers' Wide Receiver Room Would Get A Quick Fix With DK Metcalf
Metcalf would instantly elevate the Steelers' wide receiver room. He’s a highly competitive player who wears his emotions on his sleeve, but his intensity and relentless effort set him apart from most wide receivers in the NFL. His physicality, speed, and ability to win contested catches would make him a perfect fit for Pittsburgh’s tough, hard-nosed identity.

If the Steelers pull off this trade, Metcalf would quickly become a fan favorite. His energy and passion align perfectly with what Steeler Nation loves in a player. This move would take Pittsburgh’s wide receiver corps from average to one of the best in the league, giving them the firepower they need to compete with the top teams in the AFC. Now, it's up to Khan to make it happen and bring the 27 year old star wide receiver to the Steel City.
