NFL Insider: Steelers' Negotiations "Not Going Well" As Organization Tries To Land The Polarizing Aaron Rodgers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have the biggest question mark on their roster out of any team in the league, and that comes at the quarterback position. Pittsburgh does not currently have a starter under contract, and Justin Fields agreed to terms on a new deal with the New York Jets after the Steelers made some attempt at re-signing the young quarterback. Sam Darnold is another option that is off the table, which leaves the Steelers between Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson. Pittsburgh should also probably poke around the quarterback position in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Rodgers and Wilson are the top two quarterbacks available on the open market, and the Steelers and New York Giants are patiently waiting for their decisions. Both organizations want Rodgers over Wilson, but Wilson could be considered a Plan B in both scenarios. Rodgers is holding up the whole process as the NFL world awaits his decision, but that decision might not come anytime soon

Some fans expected Rodgers just to accept whatever he is offered by the Steelers as he is going into what will probably be the final year of his career. He has no need for another premium contract, but it seems like his team is still in negotiations with Pittsburgh.

Media pundit Mike Florio saw Gerry Dulac's post on X, which made him believe the two sides aren't very close on a deal which he shared on Pro Football Talk.

"His [Dulac's] tweet went something like, 'Russell Wilson could still return to the Steelers if the talks between Aaron Rodgers and the team reached a financial impasse,'" Florio said. "Of course Russell Wilson would be an option if Rodgers doesn't sign. The real news, there was clear and complete confirmation that the Steelers and Rodgers are negotiating and, and it's not going well!"

The Steelers seem like the clear choice over the Giants when it comes to where Rodgers should finish up his long and illustrious NFL career. If the quarterback wants a real shot at winning, he should come to Pittsburgh, and the fact that he hasn't signed already means the two sides are disagreeing on something behind-the-scenes.

Steelers May Have A Large Gap In Negotiations With Aaron Rodgers

It is unclear how much money Rodgers is asking for from Pittsburgh, but it should be assumed that they might have to outbid New York. Rodgers already has a home in New Jersey near the Giants' facility, and quite frankly, he is the only option for Pittsburgh unless the franchise wants to return to Wilson. This gives him all the leverage.

"Why didn't it happen [Tuesday]? Because they have a gap," Florio said. "I don't know how big the gap is, but it's big enough to prevent it from being bridged immediately. And we'll see which side, if either, bends. Do they each bend a little bit? They need each other, but I think each side looks at it and says, 'You need me more than I need you.'"

It is obvious that Rodgers doesn't have many options when it comes to being a starter in 2025. It is down to Pittsburgh and New York, and he is only going to win a decent amount of games in one of those places. If the quarterback wants to have a respectable end to his career, he needs the Steelers. The same goes for Pittsburgh, as if the organization wants any chance of competing in 2025, it may need Rodgers.

The veteran quarterback had a rough go of things with the Jets, but he can make everyone forget all of that by having a good year in Pittsburgh.
