Steelers Will Seriously "Kick Back And Wait" For Aaron Rodgers' Decision If Russell Wilson Remains Available

The Pittsburgh Steelers offered all-time legend Aaron Rodgers a contract to join the franchise for at least the 2025 season, but the once elite quarterback has decided to take his time with his decision. The Steelers found themselves in a difficult spot after Justin Fields decided to join the New York Jets for more money. Similarly, Rodgers was reportedly offered more money than Pittsburgh by the New York Giants, which goes into the Steelers' current quarterback dilemma.

While Rodgers continues to make the Steelers and Giants wait for his final decision, Russell Wilson is beginning to grow impatient. On Thursday, Wilson traveled to Berea, Ohio, to visit with Kevin Stefanski and the Cleveland Browns. After they also recently traded for Kenny Pickett, Steelers fans wouldn't be too disappointed if the Browns included Wilson and Pickett as parts of their quarterback group in 2025.

After leaving Cleveland's facility without agreeing on a contract, Wilson, on Friday, is set up to have a visit with the Giants. Rodgers' hold up has forced Wilson to become impatient, as he may be without a job heading into the new season. On Friday, Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo was on Pittsburgh's 93.7 The Fan and explained why the Steelers have no reason to rush Rodgers if Wilson doesn't strike a deal in New York.

"I really thought with Russell Wilson setting up these visits, I thought maybe the Steelers will feel pressure," Fittipaldo said on Friday's morning show. "But now, Wilson leaves Cleveland without a deal. If he leaves New York without a deal, it seems like their fallback option is there as well. From the Steelers perspective, what's their hurry? If Aaron Rodgers is their guy, and there's no threat of Russell Wilson going anywhere else, they might as well kick back and wait."

Wilson is the clear-cut fallback choice for Mike Tomlin and the Steelers, Fittipaldo continually reiterates. While the Steelers can take as much time as they'd like, no quarterback of the age like Rodgers or Wilson should be able to pressure them. The Giants will have a hard time convincing either quarterbacks to sign with them for 2025 considering it's very likely they will take a swing on a quarterback with their third overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

With it seeming more unlikely that Wilson won't be joining the Browns, and if he doesn't agree on a contract with the Giants, Pittsburgh's last resort will remain a free agent. Wilson didn't do himself any favors when he and the Steelers concluded the season on five straight losses, including their Wild Card Round defeat. Wilson's career is on the line, but it's still possible he ends up in a Steelers uniform once more to make a final push.

Steelers Begin To Set Up Quarterback Room By Bringing Back An Old Face

It didn't seem all that likely that Pittsburgh would be willing to search for a backup quarterback until they found their starter for 2025. On Thursday, however, the Steelers decided to sign Mason Rudolph to a new deal after spending only one year with the Tennessee Titans. Rudolph will likely be the number two behind whoever the Steelers end up making a move on. Rudolph closed out the Steelers' 2023 regular season on three straight wins, which led them into the playoffs after the season began to collapse.

Depending on who the Steelers decide the starter will be for 2025, Rudolph will have a solid chance to compete with them. Rudolph didn't light it up in Tennessee in 2024, but his time in the Black and Gold shouldn't be overlooked.

What do you think? Do the Steelers need to have a sense of urgency in the situation regarding Rodgers and Wilson? Or do you believe Fittiapldo is correct in believing they can just sit back and wait? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
