Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager Omar Khan, Head Coach Mike Tomlin, and Quarterbacks Coach Tom Arth reportedly were out in Tuscaloosa Tuesday night for a dinner with Alabama quarterback, Jalen Milroe. The Steelers still don’t know who will be their starting quarterback for the 2025 season just yet, but they are clearly exploring every option. While they’re scouting young talent, all signs still point to Pittsburgh holding out hope for one big name: Aaron Rodgers.

From what is known through multiple reports, Rodgers is still carefully mulling over his decision about whether or not he will return for the 2025 season and where he will be playing should he play. The Steelers appear to be all in on the possibility of landing the future Hall of Famer, but they are also preparing for alternatives. If Rodgers ultimately chooses to retire or go elsewhere, the Steelers’ backup plan seems to be sticking with Russell Wilson, who played with the team in 2024 and is still very much in the mix.
Steelers fans have been anxiously awaiting any updates on Rodgers, hoping for good news. However, on Wednesday morning, NFL insider Adam Schefter delivered an honest, yet disappointing update. According to Schefter, nothing has changed regarding Rodgers’ timeline — he remains in no rush to make a decision. For a fan base eager for clarity, this only adds more frustration and uncertainty heading into a pivotal offseason.
"Nothing related to Minnesota has altered Aaron Rodgers’ timeline," Schefter said. "One source monitoring Rodgers’ potential decision about the 2025 season said this morning that the free agent QB still 'is in no rush at all.'"
That last part from Schefter’s update about Rodgers is disappointing for Steelers fans, who are eager to find out if he will be their quarterback for the 2025 season. The uncertainty continues to frustrate a fanbase that watched their offense go from one of the league’s most explosive during the Ben Roethlisberger era to a team still searching for its next franchise quarterback. So far, that search has not gone well.

The Steelers clearly view the 41-year-old Rodgers as an attractive option, even this late in his career. They believe he is still capable of playing at a high level and remains a better fit for their current roster than Wilson. Pittsburgh’s front office and coaching staff see Rodgers as a veteran leader who could help them finally end their playoff drought.
More importantly, the Steelers believe Rodgers could help them compete for a Super Bowl in 2025. With an elite defense, a strong running game, and young playmakers on offense, they feel they are only one great quarterback away from becoming true contenders. Now, all they can do is wait for Rodgers to make his decision, even if the wait is growing more frustrating by the day.
Steelers Fans Are Getting Annoyed With Aaron Rodgers Already
The waiting game has become frustrating for Steelers fans. Rodgers is a polarizing figure, and many in Pittsburgh feel like he is dragging out the process unnecessarily. While they understand this is an important decision for him, fans are growing tired of the uncertainty and just want clarity. In their eyes, Rodgers is either in or out, and it is time for him to make that call.

Veteran defensive lineman Cameron Heyward runs out of the tunnel before a game for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
That same sentiment was echoed by Steelers defensive leader Cam Heyward on his podcast Tuesday. Heyward acknowledged the respect he has for Rodgers, but admitted the team and fan base need to know where things stand. The constant speculation is starting to wear thin on everyone involved.
For a franchise that has prided itself on stability and clear direction, the current situation feels unsettling. The Steelers have built a strong roster and are ready to compete, but until Rodgers makes his decision, they are stuck in limbo.
