The Pittsburgh Steelers decided to move on from left tackle Dan Moore Jr. after four seasons in the Steel City. Moore often took a lot of blame from the fan base, but others closer to the team stood by him. Steelers insider Mark Kaboly consistently talked about how underappreciated Moore was. Steelers legendary quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was also a vocal supporter of Moore.

Despite criticism, Moore secured a massive four-year, $82 million deal with the Tennessee Titans, making him one of the highest-paid tackles in the league. The move stunned Steelers fans, but the Titans are thrilled to have him. They clearly see something in Moore that Pittsburgh may have overlooked. However, Steeler Nation doesn't see it that way.
On Tuesday afternoon, Roethlisberger addressed the situation on his podcast Footbahlin, making it clear that he believes the Steelers will regret letting Moore walk. He defended Moore’s toughness and effort, pointing out that teams don’t pay players that kind of money unless they’re truly valuable. Roethlisberger’s comments add to the growing debate over whether Pittsburgh made a costly mistake.
"People were all over Dan Moore when he was here," Roethlisberger said. "Which, you know, people that watched the show know I like Dan Moore. I loved his heart, and I liked how he played. He went and got paid. You don’t pay a guy if you don’t think he’s worth something."
Moore often took a lot of blame, and there was plenty of tape to justify the criticism. However, some defended him, arguing that he was a dependable starter who didn’t get the credit he deserved. Despite their support, many Steelers fans remained unconvinced, seeing him as more of a liability than an asset.

Roethlisberger, however, strongly disagrees with that perception. He believes Pittsburgh will feel the impact of moving on from Moore sooner rather than later. In his eyes, Moore wasn’t just a serviceable tackle—he was a glue guy for the offensive line, someone whose presence and reliability will be missed more than fans realize.
"I think the Steelers are going to regret getting rid of a steadfast guy at tackle for a while," Roethlisberger said. "I really do."
The reality was simple—Moore's price tag skyrocketed as left tackles became a premium commodity in the 2025 offseason. The Steelers would have been crushed by the fan base had they committed over $20 million per year to keep him. Now with the Titans, Moore is hungry to prove his worth, making it clear that he wants to justify Tennessee’s investment. His massive contract has turned heads across the league, as he now ranks among the highest-paid offensive linemen in the NFL.
Steelers Could Seriously Miss Dan Moore Jr.
While Moore never fully blossomed into a star in Pittsburgh, he likely took more heat than he deserved. His struggles were well-documented on film, but some within the organization and media saw him as a steady presence on the offensive line. Steelers fans, however, were largely unmoved by that argument, often pinning the line’s issues on him despite the team’s broader protection struggles.

Roethlisberger has made it clear that he believes the Steelers will regret moving on. He didn’t just see Moore as a solid starter—he saw him as a glue guy who brought stability to the unit. With Moore gone, Roethlisberger expects Pittsburgh to feel the loss in ways that won’t be fully understood until the season unfolds. Roethlisberger also made it clear he has major concerns about Broderick Jones moving to the left tackle spot. That has added to his take about losing Moore.
