The Pittsburgh Steelers' pursuit of a starting quarterback this season is one that has already drawn a lot of headlines and will continue to do so until the roster is finalized. As we edge closer to the 2025 NFL Draft, all eyes are on head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Omar Khan to see if they hint towards pursuing experience from seasoned NFL campaigners or potential from draft candidates.

The speculation has led to online gambling expert Matt Bastock explaining that exploring offshore sports betting markets can give fans a better idea of what is likely to happen. These alternatives to state-licensed operations give greater access to consumers in states where betting is prohibited, and often provide more extensive markets with competitive odds.

The Steelers have been heavily linked with Aaron Rodgers, who is yet to find a team for the 2025 season following his acrimonious split from the Jets. The 41-year-old former four-time NFL MVP and Super Bowl champion who threw 3,897 yards last season has spoken of his disappointment after flying into New York for what he thought would be discussions on his future, only to be disappointed by what transpired.

GM Darren Mougey and new Jets head coach Aaron Glenn made it clear that they wanted to go in another direction, and Rodgers also felt it was implied that he could potentially undermine the new coach's leadership. While it was clear the Jets had made up their mind, Rodgers was quick to state that he wanted no part of the club's new direction after how he had been treated.

As a free agent, Rodgers has gone on the record as having spoken to the New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has spoken with Tomlin on a number of occasions, as well as visiting the team's facilities, putting the club in pole position to sign him in the eyes of bookmakers and experts.

Former New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers meets with Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin after a game in Pittsburgh.

Despite these meetings, Rodgers has been upfront about not making any decisions yet and has been clear with the Steelers by letting them know that he is concentrating on things off the field at present, and should they decide they need to make a different move, there would be no hard feelings.

With Rodgers' age, even if the Steelers did sign him, it might not be the worst move to consider one of the top QB prospects in this year's draft. However, their position in 21st place means that they could miss out, and they also need to strengthen their defensive line.

Steelers' Likely Draft Options At QB

If the Steelers do choose to draft a first-round QB this year, Alabama's 22-year-old Jalen Milroe could be an option. His athleticism and powerful arm are big benefits, and he has the potential to extend plays. There is still room for improvement in some aspects of his game, especially with his decision-making and accuracy, but this is something the Steelers coaches will feel they can work on.

It is believed that Milroe has all the attributes required to become a top-tier NFL QB, and with the right development, he could become a dual threat with strong passing and running abilities.

If the Steelers don't decide on a first-round QB pick, they could find value with Quinn Ewers from the Texas Longhorns. Despite offering good value, injury problems could impact Ewers' chances of selection early.

Shedeur Sanders is considered one of the top QB prospects in the class of 2025, and it is unlikely that the Steelers will have an opportunity to snap him up because of their low draft position. The New Orleans Saints have emerged as the clear favorite among bookmakers, with the Steelers in second place.

Colorado's Sanders is recognized for his accuracy and poise, and the opinion among experts varies, with some expecting him to be an early first-round pick and others placing him lower down, giving the Steelers a glimmer of hope.

Getting an answer from Rodgers would make things easier for the Steelers during the Draft, but the team should have plans in place regardless of how they go into it.
