The Pittsburgh Steelers have been in a bit of disarray at the quarterback position since the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger after the 2021 season. The future Hall of Famer played in Pittsburgh for 18 seasons, and the organization is still having trouble replacing him. The franchise tried immediately in 2022 when it drafted Kenny Pickett in the first round of the NFL Draft, but he only lasted two years with the team before being traded. It is one of the hardest things to do to land a franchise quarterback in the NFL, and Pittsburgh was lucky to have Roethlisberger for as long as it did. Now however, it is time to find the next guy for the Steelers at quarterback.

The entire city of Pittsburgh misses seeing Roethlisberger under center, as the quarterback room has been full of nothing but inconsistency since his retirement. He is enjoying life after football and will never return to the field, but there is a chance he can come back to the organization in an off-the-field role. It is not uncommon to see former players join an organization as a consultant or a scout, which is something Roethlisberger was asked about on the most recent episode of Footbahlin With Ben Roethlisberger.

"I think I'd rather do that than coach," Roethlisberger said. "A consultant maybe, a scout, I don’t know. I have no idea what that looks like. Maybe it’s like, 'Hey listen, we got two guys, would love for you just to give us your opinion.' But again, I asked at times when I was playing, I was like, 'Hey, if I could help you guys with anything like a receiver, tight end, just let me know.' Never really got asked, which was fine, they don’t have to do that, it wasn’t my job; my job was to throw the ball."

Roethlisberger always offered the organization his opinion on weapons for the offense that were coming into the league. However, the organization does things its own way and doesn't really take opinions from players, even arguably the best quarterback in franchise history. Now that Roethlisberger is retired, the organization might be open to his insight on certain situations and could consider bringing him in as a consultant or scout.

The former quarterback has remained somewhat connected to the Steelers and football. He has been seen at multiple games over the last three years, and he has had current players on his podcast, while also recapping the games every week. He hasn't been shy when it comes to giving out his opinions about the current state of the team, which might be a benefit in the scouting department. He spoke about how he would feel to take on a role like this with his former team.

"But yeah, if I can ever impart a little bit of wisdom like that, I think that would be a lot of fun," Roethlisberger said.

It sounds like Roethlisberger is open to the idea, which means Pittsburgh should reach out to the former quarterback sometime. He can especially come in handy as the organization continues to look for its next franchise quarterback, as it continues to try and fill the big shoes of Roethlisberger.

Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger Has An Eye For Winning

The most important part of a quarterback and the players around him are whether or not they contribute to wins, and that is something Roethlisberger knows better than anyone. Throughout his career, he saw a ton of success, and he consistently beat up on the bad teams he was supposed to. He led Pittsburgh to two Super Bowl victories, and he was able to see success from 2004 all the way through 2021. He has had one of the more impressive careers in recent memory, and the organization should seriously consider bringing him into the fold when it comes to evaluating talent or consulting.
