The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently navigating a chaotic and uncertain quarterback situation, which has become one of the most talked about topics in the media this offseason. At the center of this ongoing discussion is the noticeable gap of a clear starting quarterback on the roster. This gap has caused widespread speculation and debate among everyone. Leading the speculation is veteran quarterback and future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers, who is widely considered the front-runner to fill this gap.

Recently, Ray Fittipaldo, a Steelers insider with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosted a chat session where fans had the opportunity to ask questions about the Steelers. One of the questions asked to him was whether the Steelers appear to be in better shape than they were last season. In response, Fittipaldo offered his insight on how the team's changes might impact their performance moving forward.
"No because the QB [quarterback] situation is unresolved," Fittipaldo responded. "If Rodgers does sign, you can make an argument they're better, but not by much."
For Steelers fans, it has felt like ages since the initial rumors began linking Rodgers to the Steelers. Over time, numerous reported deadlines and speculation have come and gone, yet no official decision has been made by Rodgers himself. This extended period of uncertainty has understandably led to frustration and mixed emotions among the fan base. However, despite the impatience and skepticism, one thing remains clear, Rodgers has an impressive career resume and undeniable talent that could bring significant value to the Steelers' offense.

Beyond the uncertainty about whether Rodgers even wants to join the Steelers, one of the biggest concerns surrounding the potential signing is his age. At 41 years old, Rodgers currently holds the title of the oldest active player in the NFL. While his experience and accolades are impressive, age is a major factor, especially in a league that is so physically demanding. It's no secret that if he were to sign with Pittsburgh, he would not be the long-term solution. The demands of the quarterback position, both mentally and physically, are intense, and many people question how much longer Rodgers can maintain elite performance levels.
Rodgers has had a notable injury history over the course of his NFL career, which has raised concerns. One of the most significant injuries came in the 2023 season, during his first game with the New York Jets. On just the opening drive, Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles tendon, an injury that sidelined him for the entire season. Prior to that, he had dealt with other injuries, including collarbone fractures in 2013 and 2017, both of which caused him to miss extended time. While Rodgers has often shown remarkable toughness and the ability to bounce back, these injuries have added up over the years. His recent Achilles tear is particularly concerning given how difficult it can be for older players to recover fully from such a serious setback.
Steelers Have Made Other Offensive Moves
While the quarterback is undoubtedly one of the most crucial positions on offense, it isn't the only area that determines a team's success. The Steelers have made several moves to strengthen their offense in other positions this offseason. One of the most impactful additions was the acquisition of veteran wide receiver DK Metcalf. Known for his combination of size, speed, and ability to win contested catches, Metcalf immediately raises the talent level in the Steelers' receiving corps. His presence adds a much needed boost to the offense and provides a dependable target for whoever ends up starting at quarterback.

The Steelers also took advantage of the 2025 NFL Draft to continue strengthening their offensive unit. One of the most notable selections came in the third round, when the team drafted running back Kaleb Johnson out of the University of Iowa. Johnson was a standout during his college career, known for his quick acceleration, field vision, and ability to break through tackles, some traits that could translate into explosive plays at the professional level. His addition provides a fresh and dynamic option in the backfield, complementing the Steelersβ existing running game and adding depth to an area that can be crucial.
