Steelers Connections Could Help Land A Possible QB Guru For The Coaching Staff In 2023

The Pittsburgh Steelers have preached so far this off-season that most of what it is doing while trying to be a competitive team for the 2023 NFL season is making sure that rookie Kenny Pickett is comfortable. The decision to keep much-maligned offensive coordinator, Matt Canada, for a third season came largely down to his strong working relationship with the first-round pick from the University of Pittsburgh according to Steelers team president, Art Rooney II.

In trying to achieve that goal, Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette suggested a name the organization maybe should take a look into:

Davis Webb was a third-round pick by the New York Giants in the 2017 draft after playing for three years at Texas Tech, splitting time with Baker Mayfield for a season and Patrick Mahomes for two, before transferring to play his senior season as the starter at the University of California. He bounced between the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills before landing back with the Giants and getting into his first NFL start throwing a touchdown and running for a score in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Why the Steelers Might Go For It?

The team is looking to help Pickett best take the next step as he enters year two in the league and bringing in a young coach with who he has familiarity is smart. Especially when it's a young guy who has been around the kinds of talents he has in his college and pro career.

Webb was also teammates with Steelers backup quarterback, Mitch Trubisky during his stint with the Bills and since all signs point to his return as a member of the Pittsburgh quarterback room, maybe a union among backups would make sense.

The Steelers have been rumored to be keeping an eye on a couple of potential offensive coaches including Byron Leftwich to add to their staff in case things should go south in year three under Matt Canada.

While his name might have the allure of a former Steelers backup quarterback who won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Buccaneers, as a first-time coach, he might be more willing to take a less senior job. The team already has a veteran quarterbacks coach in Mike Sullivan but why not add a young assistant who only just retired?

So, Steeler Nation, do you think that the Steelers are the right option for Webb? Is he a fit to add to the coaching staff? Let us know either in the comments or on social media.
