Steelers' Justin Fields Motivated To Clean Up Mistakes In Week 2

The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently preparing for their Week 2 matchup on the road against the Denver Broncos. Mike Tomlin told the media earlier this week that as of right now, the Steelers are sticking with Justin Fields as their starting quarterback as Russell Wilson's status is still up in the air. Fields will have a full week of practice with the first-team offense and is using it to clean up some of the mistakes he made in Atlanta.

While also speaking with media, Fields was asked how he felt he preformed in the opening week for the Steelers. He was quick to say that there is plenty to clean up for the offense, especially for himself.

"I mean, yeah, I think there is a lot of stuff us as an offense, there is a bunch of stuff to clean up. Me just being accurate on my check downs so guys like Najee [Harris] and Jaylen [Warren] can catch the ball and get busy downfield -- doing what they do best."

While the Steelers were able to leave Atlanta with a win, the offense could not find the end zone. They relied on Chris Boswell's leg for points, kicking in six field goals for Pittsburgh. The good news for the offense is that they were able to control the ball, possessing it for over 35 minutes in the game. Fields understands the importance of ending drives in the end zone, but fixing the minor issues will lead to more touchdowns.

"I think there is a bunch of stuff we can clean up, just minor things and of course the biggest thing is us scoring touchdowns. That four-point swing, rather than settling for field goals."

Fields is looking to build off and improve from his first start for Pittsburgh. While he couldn't find the end zone, he finished the game with a 74 completion percentage, passing for 156 yards and adding 57 yards on the ground. He also took good care of the ball, not committing any turnovers. Penalties and miscommunication stopped a few drives, but Fields has confidence that the offense will be able to fix them.

Now that Fields is working with the first-team offense ahead of their road matchup with the Broncos, this is as much as a revenge game for him as it is for Wilson. Last season, Fields faced the Broncos in Week 4 in Chicago. Fields had a chance to lead his former team, the Chicago Bears down the field late in the fourth quarter to either tie or win the game. Unfortunately for Fields, he was picked off by Kareem Jackson and the Bears lost by three. Fields finished that game with 335 yards passing, with four touchdowns, and adding 25 yards on the ground.

The Steelers are hopeful to add more pieces this week on the offensive side of the ball to help Fields. Roman Wilson is working his way back this week from his ankle injury that sidelined him for most of training camp. The receiving core outside of George Pickens did not produce in much in Week 1, with only two catches for six yards from Pickens' supporting cast. With Dan Moore's ankle injury, the Steelers' first round pick, Troy Fautanu, has been working with the first-team at right tackle as well -- a move that makes Broderick Jones the Steelers' starting left tackle.

Steelers' Justin Fields Ready To Finish Drives In The End Zone

The Steelers' offense knows that they can't continue to win games without finishing more drives with six points. While moving down the field didn't seem like too much of an issue for the Steelers, mental errors kept them out of the end zone. Fields seems determined to improve and hopefully use Week 2 as his stage to prove to the coaching staff that he is their starting quarterback of the future, especially with Wilson still working back from his calf injury.

Will Fields and the offense consistently find the end zone in Denver, or will the Steelers once again rely on their defense and Boswell to carry them to 2-0? Let us know what you think in the comments.
