The Pittsburgh Steelers made several aggressive moves this offseason, with the quarterback room stealing headlines. The team cleared out all the quarterbacks who saw game action during the 2023 season and brought in veteran quarterback Russell Wilson on a one-year deal worth the veteran minimum. Wilson is expected to be the starter, and many believe he has a legitimate chance to regain momentum in his career in Pittsburgh.

Wilson signed a massive five-year contract worth $242 million when he was traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the Denver Broncos. Expectations were high for him to lead Denver back to Super Bowl contention. However, in his first season with the Broncos, Wilson led the team to just four wins, throwing for only 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. In his second and final season with Denver, the team made some changes. Wilson improved, leading the team to seven wins and throwing for 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Despite the lack of wins, he had a more productive season as a quarterback.

Now, at 35, Wilson joins Pittsburgh with a determination to prove his doubters wrong and revive his career. He faces the challenge with a wide receiver room that has raised concerns since the Steelers traded Diontae Johnson. George Pickens is poised to take over as the star wide receiver, but beyond him, there's a noticeable drop-off. The Steelers brought in several speedy, but average receivers to fill the void left by Johnson, including Scotty Miller.

Many Steelers fans are curious about the impact Miller can have in Pittsburgh. Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo mentioned on 93.7 The Fan's Morning Show that Miller has impressed him during offseason practices.

“The one guy who stood out to me among the receivers (I don't think he's a No. 2), but I think he could earn a spot on this team is Scotty Miller.”

During OTAs and minicamp, Fittipaldo observed a budding chemistry between Wilson and Miller. Miller, one of the new wide receivers Pittsburgh brought in, will be competing for playing time in a crowded room filled with average but speedy receivers. Fittipaldo is eager to see if that chemistry continues to develop during training camp.

“Scotty Miller and Russell Wilson had a little bit of chemistry in OTAs and minicamp. Russ looked at him a lot, and I wanna see if that continues up at Saint Vincent as well."

Miller joins Pittsburgh after five seasons in the NFL, having started his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a sixth-round draft pick. Over these five seasons, he has recorded 85 receptions for 1,085 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns. Additionally, Miller has carried the ball eight times as a running back, gaining 81 yards and scoring one touchdown.

Steelers' Scotty Miller Has Made Big Plays In His Career

Miller's standout season came in his second year when he caught 33 receptions for 501 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He also won a Super Bowl with Tom Brady, making several key plays during their playoff run that year.

Notably, Miller has a connection with the Steelers' new Offensive Coordinator, Arthur Smith, having played under him during the 2023 season with the Atlanta Falcons.

The Steelers' wide receiver group has faced some concerns, but they have several speedy wide receivers vying for a spot. Miller is among them and has impressed during the offseason, earning a greater opportunity. Fittipaldo is eager to see if the chemistry between Wilson and Miller continues into training camp and the season.
